Took my Yukon to the shop a couple days ago to get an engine misfire checked out. Well, found out today it was due to water getting into the cylinder via a crack in the cylinder head. To get down to it, it looks like I'm gonna need a new engine, as repairing it isn't really an option.
So even though this is a pretty crappy situation, I must say I'm curious as to what other engines could be dropped in instead of another 350. I'm entertaining the possibility of a diesel swap, either to a NBS duramax or a 6.5l from another GMT400. I'm not really sure if either is possible, but seeing as it will have another engine dropped in it one way or another, I'm more or less using this as an excuse to fuel my modding addiction.
Anyway, I wanna know what you guys think.

Dmax is doable, but not easy, not at all.
6.5 won't be near as bad as this is an engine that was offered in Tahoes/Yukons.
However the cost can get higher.

Why is just replacing the head not an option?
Get one from a junk yard take the other off and have them both rebuilt. Would be a lot cheaper and get you going right now.
If you want to swap start working on getting parts.

That is what I said at first, but apparently the engine is more or less toasted to the point where rebuilding it would essentially mean replacing everything.
