My name is Todd and from north east Florida. I have been a car junkie/motor head all my life and tend to switch vehicles about every year or two just because I get bored.

I recently sold my turbocharged Jeep Wrangler rubicon Unlimited LJ (2006) and was driving a family members car till I found a new vehicle. My boss was trading in his 2001 Tahoe LS with 4wd on a new Tahoe and after talking with him, he said he would sell it to me for the same amount as trade in. Which was just over $1700. So I bought that and did a bunch of work to it like all 3 seals on front differential, oil pan gasket, rear main seal and that plate seal the rear main sits in, front cover seal, battery, starter, oil sending unit, water pump, oil pump, timing chain, every fluid in the truck except steering, plugs and wires. I also replaced the stereo and all 4 door speakers. I still need to replace the factory sub just because it sounds like the foam has deteriorated and sounds terrible.

It has over 200k miles on it and runs literally like a top. I love it. I need to drive it for another week until my son goes to college locally to make sure it is totally reliable and will let him drive the Tahoe so I still needed another vehicle.

So a week later a family friend offered to sell me their 2007 LT 2wd with dual buckets, leather etc for a very good deal. So I jumped on it based on how much I love this other Tahoe. This new one only has 70k and has been extremely well maintained so I see it lasting a lot long than my usual year or two.

I have already been reading non-stop for the last few days and will need to read a lot more.

My plans are to redo the stereo in the 07, add a Whipple supercharger and Corsa exhaust. Drop and wheels will be first probably. Beyond that I am still deciding.

But thanks for all the info and I look forward to being abl to contribute at some point in the future.

sound slike the 07 is going to be a real head turner. Cannot beat $1700 for a 01. for the $3500 you probably have in it, you are still ahead of the game.

Have less than that in the 01 and I love it. If my son didn't need a vehicle for school I would just drive it. Luckily I have a buddy with a lift that is a master tech and helps me with work.

What turbo kit was on the jeep?

Welcome to TYF!

It is the Banks 'Sidewinder' kit. I had it from the beginning and had a lot of tuning issues with it. But the power was amazing. It was lifted with 33's and near the end I upgraded the 4.10's to 4.88's.

They didn't release an intercooler till the end just before I sold. Otherwise it really needed the intercooler and could have solved some of my issues.

Awesome.
Did you use the hand held tuner or get a real tune done?

I'm looking into the 06 rubi's and the full on banks power package.
But I will be using HPtuners and don't expect any issues..

Banks includes the InTune from diablosport in the package. I had issues in the beginning with cold starts and eventually hunting idle after warming up. I logged and sent it to the tuners at banks and they adjusted the tune. I happen to know a tuner who works for diablosport and had him look at the tune and he found a few blatant issues the banks people let in the tune.

I do not think HP tuners works one the <=2006 wranglers. Banks had tons of delays because of tuning issues. They made a change in 2005 for only 2 years to the computer and it causes lots of problems. I would have loved it is HP Tuners worked because I was going to buy one with extra credits for another vehicle and I could have just tuned it myself which I have done on other cars in the past. But at the time, no such luck.

You may have better luck now. I haven't looked rally recently.

With all that said, I would highly recommend a professional tune by someone that has tuned 05-06 wranglers before. I bet it will be hard to find though.

If you have questions about the kit etc, feel free to let me know. I did the install and tried to post a lot of details in the main thread about this kit on the wrangler forum. I don't have enough posts yet to pm but post in this thread and I can get you my number and/or email.

Now that you mention posting the instal on WF. I beleive i read your thread.
Had to remember tho. I spent a week reading everything i could find on those kits and their issues.

It was a recent update to hptuners that opened up the 05 up jeeps.
