I am in the market for an amplifier for another ride of mine, it will be powering an old skool set of Orion Cobalt 12's in a ported box, problem is I need to install the amp upside down and I have been told that you can't install most amps that way (I had an Urban Audio amp installed upside down in a truck for 7 years and it worked awesome until it gave up last summer, but I do see there point).
Anyways, I went to a place yesterday and the guy told me that Boston Acoustic makes their amps stay cool so well that you could install them however you want, he was leading me towards a GT 24 (last years model) or also a GT 2125 model.
So Whatcha guys think, In the car I am putting the amp in there really isn't much room to put an amp in without it being in the way or seen by others, hanging in the trunk is about the best option that I have found.

If you don't have a whole ton of space, I would look into a JL Audio HD series. The HD750/1 dimensions are only 10.74"Lx8.29"Wx1.93"H. My personal amp preferences are Hertz, Audison, or JL, but I am definitely a SQ guy.

I agree JL is the way to go if you can, but there are always places to put an amp that no one will ever see

The alpine amps are good for that to. The pdx's are small, can be mounted anyway, are very very well ventilated, and pack alot of punch in a small package, but the price tag does too! Just a suggestion......

it's generally not good to mount upside down for heat dissipation find one with a fan

why not make an amp rack and mount the rack to the back of the seats? then you won't have any issues with overheating and any possibility of voided warranty due to upsidedown mounting.

I thought about making an amp rack and putting it on the back seat but I like the location that I have now, I might even just hang the amp right side up and deal with not seeing the good side of it just to keep it in the same spot (hangs next to the stock amp for the car right now!)
Just after some good opinions on a good amp, probably need to push 300 or more to each sub!

Boston acoustic, JL audio, audiobahn, kicker, alpine, pioneer,..... etc, whatcha guys think I should go for without spending a ton a coin on one?

never heard a problem with mounting them upside down. As long as air is moving across the heat sinks and/or fans aren't blocked, it really doesnt matter which way ther are facing.

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh....thank you play again.

heat rises...that's why the heat sinks are on the TOP of the amp to dissipate the heat away from the amp. by upsidedown mounting you are forcing hte heat up the heat sinks and right back into the amp. if the amp is TRUNK mounted it's even at a HOTTER ambient temperature than if installed under a seat or amp rack mounted inside the a/c'd vehicle. Warranties will be voided if improperly mounted. I know Gary when he worked for Car Toys in Tulsa had problems even convincing judges of this when he had upsidedown mounted Kicker amps in the late 90's. He actually had to get it in writing for HIS amps from Kicker that they were specailly built/designed for upsidedown mounting, but he had internally mounted push/pull fans installed taht weren't visible for all to see to help cool them and he STILL had problems with them becasue they were trunk mounted.
