I have a 05 Tahoe Z71. I am looking at getting a chip or a programmer. I've been looking at HyperTech, BullyDog, and Super Chip. Has anyone used these? Any you would recommend or suggest I stay away from?

I had used hypertech and it didnt do anything for me. didnt notice and performance changes, mpg, or even changing shift points. I returned it for a refund and Went and tried Black bear Autocal tune. There is so many good things about the autocal. One thing is that the unit can hold mutiple tunes that can be swapped out and programmed into your truck at any given time. I got tunes for towning, sport mode, 87 gas, 93 gas, tunes for 22 inch rims and 17 inch rims. The best for your money compared to any Chip or programmer

I have 04 Tahoe and I have the Hypertech programmer. It does work. The shift points made a differnce for me. Now I will say it is not a drastic change. I actually noticed it more when I set truck back to stock and see what it is missing. I intend to get and recommend a true custom tune if you really want to get something out of it. But for what it is it's okay. Plus I got a steal of a deal for mine on craigslist. That is why i picked it up.
Good luck
.

got to be careful. Hypertech will be locked out if someone programs their truck and sells you the unit. The only way to free it is to remove the tune on the truck it was programmed to. Seen this happen coulple of times

What about BlackBear? From what I've read this is the way to go.

cant say enough good things about them. So much more options when compared to a univeral handheld programmer. Justin will make tunes specific to your truck based on the log info you give him

Good to know, when they were coming to Houston last year I asked about it on here. Someone told me that I couldn't get one for my '05. That was a major reason why I didn't get a tune. I wanted to be able to switch back if needed for warranty issues.
