Does anyone have recommendations for valve cover bolt grommets? Mine were replaced when I did the valve cover gaskets and updated the “VLOM cover” but they almost look as though they are getting dry rotted. Probably too much brake clean overspray and excessive heat prior to replacing the broken manifold & bolts.
I also found that both the intake and the valve cover bolts were under torqued. I should have rechecked em after driving it for a while, especially since I had someone “helping” me with the swap.
I have to say though, so far I’ve been quite happy with my ACDelco 3/8” digital torque wrench. It’s real nice to have for the lb-in stuff. Anything on the high end of the lbf-ft scale is done with my 1/2” drive torque.
*for anyone scratching their head at my abbreviations or the order of expressions (pound-inch or pound-foot) it’s ok to be confused. The US education system has failed this country since the 1970’s. So before anyone wants to argue that both are correct, please feel free to take any one of the physics classes I teach and we can discuss this further. My nephew tried arguing this point with me and after explaining the laws and principles behind it I realized all hope was lost with the upcoming generation. Enough of my soapbox...who’s turn is it to climb up here?
I have the AC delco torque adapters, both in 3/8 and 1/2in.
I love em.
A little bulky for some things, but handy to have around.
And years ago i picked up a little craftsman torque wrench, i got inch lbs and ft lbs mixed up.
Buying the inch lb/NM version by accident.
Best mistake i have ever made, i do google conversions if i need ft lbs.
IIRC it's max is just under 18ft lbs.
Perfect for transmission tasks, and most of the DOD delete task i did over the past few weekends.
And i used the grommets in a felpro upper kit i bought, it has only been a few days but so far so good...
I did grease them up pretty good in order to get them to seat into the valve cover.
Time will tell how good i did.
