I looked thru a bit of the catch. can thread last week and ended up ordering a cheap Amazon one. I've lost the thread but where does the steel wool go?

few pics.. it's surprisingly heavy full billet feeling thing. no drain in the bottom thou.

Well, this is a bit concerning. I installed a new German-made AGM EverStart about 6 weeks ago. But I also installed a 220A alternator from a much newer (2019, I think) truck.
I would hope that the alternator you bought and modded has more modern circuitry. I'm also not sure how much of the charging process is controlled by the ECM/BCM vs the IC's in the alternator itself. Hence why it's still just a theory based on observations from 3 pre-AGM vehicles.

That's an effective unit. I don't worry about using the steel wool myself.

yeah? on the one sheet of paper you might call instructions it didn't say anything about. I thought about maybe putting it in the part with the holes in it. that part unscrews. but it's kinda big to jam on there.

maybe I'll just leave it out and see what it does. never put one on a NA engine before but looked like it did something useful on everyone else's in the thread.

The steel wool provides extra coalescing surface for the oil vapor to attach to. Doesn't take much to do the job so I would just tear off a piece that will fit in there and go with it.

We all have different opinions here. I just personally don't care for it or see a difference using it. And it is less hassle to empty and clean it out which I have to do about once a month.

That little screw in baffle piece fell out on me once so make sure it is snug or maybe put some thread lock on it.

yeah I didn't really expect to clean all that, just unscrew the bottom and dump it from time to time. I just wasn't sure where to put the steel pad if I was to use it lol.

makes sense, I just wasn't sure that's where it went.

if I remember right in engines like the Nissan RB you gotta have some kinda metal screen in the valve cover and the catch can or they drink tons of oil.

I'll mess with it and see what I end up with.

do you have hp? it sounds like you can go in and change the settings on the battery voltage so that it runs what agm likes all the time?

I do have HPT. So that's all the difference is- preferred charging voltage? What about the RVC stuff?
