We had a new guy change the oil and filter on a company truck and he tightened up that filter so tight the gasket tore off. Two oil changes in one day, and a lot of cleanup. He had oil all over the place.

Instructions on the oil filter or box say 3/4-1 turn past gasket contact.

I've been doing my filters hand tight (using 1 hand, usually only gets about 1 turn past gasket contact) on all my vehicles for 30 some-odd years with no problems or leaks.

This. Well, except I haven't been doing it for quite that long. LOL I usually don't have a problem gripping the filter to get it plenty tight enough by hand when the new filter is clean/oil free and wearing rubber gloves. If by chance a can't, a small piece of sandpaper always does the trick to get some "bite" to hand tighten it.

Put some bling on my thing. I'm not a chrome fan, but I like to break up the black plastic motif where cheap and possible. The SSV was bought with the intent to slowly make it more upscale when the price is right. Also got some chrome dour handles. I'll install one and see. Not sure on them yet. All of it for $67 so the bank wasn't broken even if I don't use anything but the mirror caps (they're replacements, not the stick on kind).

Funny thing: The mirror caps were $51. All four handles were $64. The package together was $67.

I'm thinking of just painting my caps.
