Nicholas, what kind of oil was running in this?

Is the lifter guide on that cylinder broken? That's what usually happens. Lifter guide cracks, lifter goes sideways and wipes out lobe. Tie bars would have been nice from the factory.
Always synthetic 5w-30, Always changed before 15%. Dealer maintained until 60k. I bought at 86k and now has 170k. I haven't disassembled yet as the wife is deciding how much I can spend on the repairs. I will post up more on the upcoming weekend as I hope to have all of the parts by then.

I've learned to live with the cracked dash on my 08, it started cracking in 2013, a year after it was purchased used. sucks to look at but I think the way its all designed even if you got a new dash from GM it would probably crack again down the road. We traded an explorer in, and they had a similar issue on the lift gate. They glued a plastic trim panel to the bottom of the glass and things would expand/contract at a different rate and pop that plastic or crack it. Ford didnt do crap for owners.

As far as what I did today, replaced the diff fluid. Currently at 183K, and I know it hasnt been changed in the 100K I have owned it. thankfully when i popped the cover it looks like it had been done prior to me buying it because it had orange RTV rather than a gasket. Oil was black but didnt look like a glitter bomb thankfully.
