What did you do to your NNBS GMT900 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Wife came home after a long run in the rain and the idler pulley was a little squeaky. Ordered a new idler pulley, tensioner and belt from Rock Auto and replaced it today with the kids in between an oil change and tire rotation. Easy peasy.

The belt was of course worn but still working fine after 178K miles and 13 years. Same for the tensioner. The pulley had some resistance as it was spun round and round.

Put the Tech-2 on the Sierra and she has a faulty passenger side temperature actuator, I could feel it act up while sitting in the truck while running the Tech-2. Interesting to note that the car had not had a DTC in about 36K miles and that was probably when the battery was replaced way back in 2017 with an ACDelco 48PS. The Tech-2 said it's state of charge was 92% and it seems to be in excellent condition for being 5 and a half years old. The 48PS in the Yukon went 48 months. We shall see.

You were still running the original belt at 178K? That seems a bit too thrifty for my taste :p.

I'm all for saving a buck but I've personally had serpentine belts shred themselves on me in other cars. Once, when I punched the throttle in my old Rodeo to execute a pass. The belt had close to 90K on a 90K change interval so I knew it was time, but it induced a pucker factor in that moment that I'd gladly pay the $50 to avoid in the future :). And I was a good 75 miles from the nearest parts store but was carrying a spare, thankfully. These days I change mine every 50K or so.

changed both of mine about 4 years ago in 2018 which means they have about 70k on them. i'll have to take a closer look at them this weekend when I do some engine clean up and intake cleaning, need to do all 3 vehicles. I usually take a bottle of purple power and spray the whole engine compartment, then pressure wash it. I like a nice clean engine bay that way any leaks are easily spotted and sourced.

Guess I've been lucky, have never had a serpentine belt fail and have been driving cars with them since the 1980s. I'd look at it periodically to see if it had cracks, it still does not. It's all shiny and the grooves are wider of course than the replacement.

Does GM have a published service life on them or to change them out at a certain time?

Back in the day with v-belts, always kept spares in the trunk!

Front suspension refresh complete.

MevoTech TTX + Arnott electronic shocks. Elected to keep the Z95 suspension.

Also did a 1" level at the same time.

Car rides fantastic and no more steering wobbles on the highway. A big investment bit hopefully worth it.

I kept tossing belts (teehee) on my LS1 back in the day (ca 2000). I put an ASP underdrive pulley on and apparently cross-threaded the crank bolt and it didn't snug up fully. Doh! I was young...

But yeah, never on a stock motor.
