Knocked out the driver side valve cover gasket earlier.
Wind picked up as I was finishing up so I didn't get to do an oil change.

Gaskets on both sides were hard as a rock and very brittle.
Came off in pieces while the hold down bolt grommets were also very brittle.
Some were still flexible but most fell apart during removal.

Really glad I finally had the chance to take care of them.

That was my first upgrade was new valve covers, then I caught the bug and started modding out everything!! Glad u realized what a pain the GM grommets are!

discovered something new to me, I had never noticed that there is what appears to be a combination gravity/air activation switch on the inside edge of the rear hatch door.
I was first looking at it because a small 1" section looked different then further inspection I thought perhaps at first it was part of the rear wiper washer sprayer (not sure why first thing that came to mind) but on both sides it runs about 30" or so and looks just like a trim panel/weather seal, curiosity got to me and revealed that when the hatch is partially lowered even just a little bit and the hose is pressed on it activates the hatch lock, hmmm. I guess that is how it detects that the hatch is in closed/open position?? my best guess anyway

That’s weird. At first I looked at the bottom edge and didn’t see it until I looked at your pictures again and see it’s on the side at the bottom. It does indeed lock but it seems to lock all the doors if I do it twice.

Must be as Yukon thing. My hoe doesn’t have that.
wifes suburban has it, both of ours have the powered liftgate/hatch, I assume it it for the powered hatch's then. Just surprised I never noticed it before because I clean all the cracks and crevices a few times a year, guess I just never paid that much attention to it.

I kind of found out it activates the lock by accident as I was holding the hatch down a bit and pressing on it and heard the lock cycle. weird it's never come up as a thing before that I have seen. with the hatch all the way up it doesn't do anything so I assume some type of gravity switch is involved as well or the lift motor has some kind of sensor.
anyway learned something new....

I doubt anybody but you figured out it does that. It’s a special combination that has to happen in order for a person to do it on purpose. I guess you’re a special kind of person! well, we all knew that…:console:

i'm special all-right...... part idiot is more like it, not sure how I even manage to make it month to month. Feb is short so i'm scrambling to make shit work.....
I'm also slightly certain i tried to stick a fork in a socket as a child to see what would happen  it's pretty WELL documented that I took everything apart to see how it worked

Damn Tahoe I bought needs so much work. I knew it did when I bought it but it was a great price. Trying to chase a few rattles. The front end links were one, fixed that pretty cheap. Then the back has a rattle, thought it was the muffler hitting the rear end links and the rubber isolator at the back was gone and letting it make contact so today I replaced that. What a bear it was getting the old one off and the new one on, even with lubrication. Went for a test drive….still there. I knew the rear shocks were shot, the bladders are long gone. The compressor still runs on startup and then throws a code. But I didn’t think they were as shot as I see on closer inspection. So bad that when I get on the bumper and jump up and down the driver side one….rattles. I ordered the Arnott AS-2715’s from Rock Auto. Best price I could find, $287 delivered. I have the remanufactured ones on my 02 but I bought those when they were Bilstein’s that they reman’d but nowadays they’re OE that they rebuild and besides that, they’re waaaaay more expensive than the new Arnott made ones. I’m not breaking the bank on this truck so these will have to do. I still need to do a lot. I also ordered all the stuff to swap my brand new Pioneer in it from my 02 ( I broke the drivetrain in it right after replacing the stereo) until I get it back on the road. I miss my wireless CarPlay even though I have a 3 month trial of Sirius XM with the factory unit which is nice.
