I just found out I need new heads for my 2004 Tahoe. Here is the amazing thing...I have 155,000 mi on it. I have "babied" her since day 1. My mech said he could do it for $2000-2500. The dealer suggest to replace the engine???? It turns out the coolant is slowly leaking into the engine. I am torn because I have never had a major issue, other than water pump, idler arm, small stuff. This will be the most $$$ that I dumped into it. I'm now afraid I've reached the end of the line and need to make a decision fast.

Question: Should I just replace the heads and pray for the next 50k miles? Or suck it up and trade it in for a newbie? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The decision is your as far as the new ride, but with 155k miles, I would swap the motor. If you do, make sure you don't get another with the same heads though; do a search I believe there was a casting problem on some of the heads.

man If I were in your shoes and my Tahoe had been that loyal I would prob find a lightly used LQ4 or LQ9 6.0L and do freshen up and swap that in if wanting you can prob get another 100K outta her~

I would swap in a motor. Although a new truck would be great. At all lies on how you are financially. best of luck
