Noob here...

Just picked up an 02 Yukon w/ 101,000 miles. 4.8 baby v8 :)

sitting in the driver seat, i have been hearing some sort of static that i thought was coming from the dash area near the headlight controls. turns out there is some sort of speaker or something making the noise. it is above my head to the left in the headliner about 1.5" round. what the hell is it and why is it making a buzz/static/whatever sound??? it is driving me CRAZY!!!

On another note, what all should the message center display? all i have seen it say is security, rear hatch open. should there be more? ie. gas mileage, etc...

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There is a little vent above your head, in it is a fan, it gets dirty and makes noise. I have not had this problem, but from what I have heard and read, it is very common. Just blow it out with some low pressure air, careful not too much so you don't ruin the little fan inside, maybe start with one of those cans of compressed air from the office store if you don't have a decent regulator.

Welcome, good luck, and Merry Christmas.

Above statements are correct but here's a few other threads about it-

And the DIC only shows security, change oil, and a few others, I can't remember offhand, but it won't show remaining mileage, mpg, adjustable options. Those didn't come into effect til 2003 when the electrical system was upgraded.
