Oh, I bought out of state for sure, I got mine from Arkansas and had it trucked to Georgia, it was specifically Texas dealerships that wouldn't budge for me.I didn't have that problem at all. Nor did the Mississippi dealership imply that when I called each day to make sure it was still there. Once you overnight them that cashier's check with the VIN number of the vehicle, they know you're serious... That's when the attitudes change and the ass kissing begins.
Cashier's checks are usually inconsequential now since these vehicles are movers and they'll sell regardless and the dealerships would prefer financing any day. I was ready to make a deposit and made it clear when talking to Texas dealers and they said no once I said I was out of state.
I got stuck with a $10k markup, but there was another salesman trying to sell the truck at the same time so I didn't have a chance to talk them down. It had everything I wanted with the only retrofit being parking sensors, so I was OK with it.
