Thanks for the input. Since it wasn't easily identified and we didn't find anything missing in the area, I'm thinking it didn't come from the truck. My son was here over the weekend so I took a picture of the skid plate (my '03 does not have this plate under the front diff) and a couple more of the plastic ring. Thanks again.

Looks like a grommet from a firewall to protect something from chafing. Coolant, fuel, a/c, harness, etc.
