my passenger side running board has started having intermittent issues retracting. I have read that lubricating the hinges can help.

What type of Lubricant is reccomended?

I've read everything from WD40 to chain Lubricant. My concern is that I don't want to use anything that is going to attract dirt etc.

grease or oil in general will attract grease. i suggest white lithium lubricant or a silicone spray lubricant. someone correct me on that white lubricant tho im not sure if thats correct. its at advance or autozone and is in a spray can. anyway that might not be the spelling but i use it on my hinges because it stays where you spray it and a little goes a long way.

You sound pretty confident so I'll go with your rec. Curious though, any particular reason silicone is the preferred?
Salty northeastern roads suck and as much as id love to shoot mine with my arsenal of penetrating lubes, wd40, white lithium grease... if you ever look at those after you use them somewhere everything sticks to it, dust, dirt nastiness and not only that but it drips off........... silicone spray dries quick and no greasy, dirty spots of crap every where. You may have to apply more often but it’s extremely slick and a much cleaner lube. I also use it on a rag and run up the weather strip inside the doors and where ever else i think of while have it out.
I will add, amp (the manufacturers of these steps) only recommends rinsing with plain water but thats not practical in the middle of winter here in NY. I just extend the steps and shoot the hinges with silicone whenever I remember, i dont make it a daily or even weekly ritual its more of a, oh yeah.... I should do that and i do and go about my day.
My 2 cents

What silicone spray do you recommend? I just bought a '15 LTZ and the passenger side is stuck almost all the time. I can hear the motor trying to pull up after you close the door so I'm sure it needs cleaning and good silicone/grease added.
