What should I look out for with my tahoe?

Greetings all, I introduced myself in the intro's forum but would like to get into the nitty gritty of my 2009 tahoe, so spill the dirt, what goes wrong with 2009 LTZ, what should I look out for? This is my first GM car since my college cruiser Olds' Alero with the v6 that consistently had Overhead Gasket issues and the Alero forums were great resources and I'm looking forward to being just as impressed here.

Also, a couple questions right off the bat:

1)I bought and extended warranty with my Truck and going in this Saturday to have one of the rear defroster power cords fixed as I either didn't catch that it was detached at test drive or it happened in the week I've owned it so far - will the stealership try to charge me for this? (the detachment is at the glass)

2) I vaguely remember my sales guy tell me that I can fold the 3rd row seats with a button from the drivers seat but I can't find it when I'm in the truck and can't seem to find it in the manual so thinking the 3rd row seats are manual.

3) do you guys prefer to drive with or without the 3rd row seat if you don't have a massive family? Currently it's just me, my girlfriend and my dog, I might have a friend or two in the car with me but don't foresee many instances the 3rd row will come in handy.

Well, I'm sure i'll come up with many more questions but any input to these would be really helpful!

thanks! - AJ

1. Is covered under the standard bumper to bumper warranty and the only fix is a new rear window. Not sure if it is covered under your extended warranty.

2. The 3rd row seats are manual only. The second row seats on some trucks are powerfold as an option.

3. Depends on individual needs I guess. Keep in mind that the seats also fold up vertical, which is a nice compromise tween having them in but not taking up the entire cargo space. If you're almost never going to use them might as well take 'em out and enjoy the half mpg fuel savings. What you don't want to be doing is lifting those things in and out cause they're heavy and magnetically attracted to shins.

Nothing that I can think of mechanically that you need to stress over.

Enjoy your Hoe.

I think I have a 50/50 shot of having the rear defroster covered by the warranty...

covered: heating and vehicle manufacturer installed air conditioning components.

Not covered: Glass.

If they try to push back and try to get me to pay for it I'm going to be pretty upset, I've had the rig for 8 days as of today!! I bought it from a Chevy dealership and the extended is GM's own Major Guard deal.

I hear ya ... it honestly comes down to the dealer, some are ******* enough to contest valid warranty work, and some have been known to warranty stuff after folks' warranties have ran out to help them out. Most fall somewhere in between. Hopefully your dealership's service manager is a good and honest guy.

Thanks... we'll have to see, I'm used to being treated like royalty at my Volvo dealership... kept buying their cars even with all their gremlins but at least they fixed almost everything free of charge. I finished buying the truck last week after the dealership had officially closed and service department had all gone home so didn't have a chance to get introduced to the service manager. Usually a bill to grease the palm gets things done...

If you only bought it eight days ago I would go back and ask the dealer to fix, warranty or not.

Hi AJ847,
Please feel free to send a PM with your VIN and mileage and we'd be happy to look into this further for you and could give you some information on any warranties you may have.

Thank you,

My son has my "old" 2010 Tahoe with mileage in the 90,000 mile range. No issues. I just sold it to him. Combined highway and city miles. Just change the oil at the required intervals and these trucks will run forever. We're trying to get 300,000 miles out of this truck. Oh and I now own a 2012 fully loaded Tahoe LTZ that I just bought as a leftover. Hoping to get the same service out of this one. Actually I have owned a dozen new Chevy trucks since 2002. I've had great luck with all of them except a 2004 Avalanche that was like a swimming pool inside every time I washed it or it rained.
