There seem to be a lot of guys running lower temp stats here. I’m not sure what the reason would be in the winter, but I would like to point out that oil does not lubricate as well at lower temperatures.
I once bought a new chev pickup truck that came from the factory with a piece of casting speered through the thermostat, holding it open.
I complained over and over again to the dealer about the lack of heat. Because it was a diesel engine, they kept telling me that diesels, run colder than gas engines.
I would have gotten into it myself, except the truck was under warrantee and I figured it was their job. Plus I was busy working 70 hours a week at my job.
Finally after getting back from a trip to Chicago during frigid temps, I stopped back at the dealer to insist they check the thermostat. This was visit number six for lack of heat.
I came back the next day to pickup the truck and found it in the bay with the engine removed. Running cold had caused all the cylinders to wear in a “bell” shape. (much wider at the bottom)
Chevrolet gave me a new engine when they could have just checked the stat in the first place.
You guys do what you want, but just know that a cold engine is not being lubricated as well as it should be…………………..
