I have an '01 Denali that's bone stock right now, 6.0L with 3.73s (I think they were the only option?). I'm looking to add some power, and hopefully some milage and this is my current plan:

K&N CAI (first)
BB Tune (probably a month or two after the CAI)

I don't want to go overboard on things, and this is a decently cheap route to go to get a bit more power without sinking in too much money. I'm currently getting 13.0mpg or so, and as long as that number doesn't drop I'm fine.

What octane do you guys think I should get the tune for? The cost of gas isn't too big of a deal, but what can I expect out of a tune optimized for 91 instead of 87? I know that by going with 91, you can optimize some more power with timing, but is it that much of a difference over a tune for 87? I've seen that some guys get theirs tuned for 93, but 91 is the highest most places here carry.

After all is said and done, what can I expect for performance? I'm not looking to throw any money away, but if it makes a noticeable improvement, I'm more than willing to get it done. I'm not looking for TBSS performance, just some more power. (Although eventually, the plan is to get a TBSS :D)

I can't speak for BB tunes as I dont have one, but my expierence with a predator (no one flame cus I dont have BB) is this: but dont expect to get more mileage out of a 91 tune vs an 87 tune. Do expect to pay $0.25 more per gallon at the same mileage.

As for a CAI, some people see a small MPG gain, I was hoping to be one of those people. I wasn't, I lost 1/3 of an MPG. but the sound makes up for it.

In the end, I average 13.5 - 14 with 33's and keys. so im happy. Just get the mods and dont worry about MPG, think of it as a percent...I lost like 5 percent in mileage. no big deal.

I wouldn't expect much from the CAI other then a deep throaty sound.

The black bear tune should definitely get your truck into shape. I haven't seen a drop in gas mileage for my truck, and I have been on the gas a little harder since the tune. Averaging a little over 14MPG in my 5.3 and I also have headers and exhaust.

I would also suggest a corvette servo for your trans. It costs like $20 and will really firm up your shifting. Arguably the most bang for your buck mod for these trucks. Haven't put mine in yet, but I will soon hopefully..

definately do both...once you get your tune, dont plan on saving many MPGs and losing some for awhile because it is way too much fun to stomp down on the pedal and feel the increase in power that was held back before!!!

I was hesitant on a tune for awhile but it is probably my favorite mod and most beneficial. well worth the money
