I just had a 70 454 Chevelle restored ground up, and the body was in great shape, the paint job complete was 12k, got quotes from 5k to 30k, if you are paint engine compartment, trunk and inside doors it's not cheap, it's all in the prep to make it perfect

Old contractor joke is if they don't get upset with the initial estimate, add 10%-15%.

I'm in a similar boat. 2006 Tahoe dark silver, clear coat failing. Quotes: ES $4000 (best paint they use), independent place up in the mountains $7000. I'm fine with working on taking the various parts off e.g. roof rack. I'll see about a local "side" job type approach as mentioned above. Good luck.
