Hi - I am trying to find out what the tow package consists of in an '04 Yukon. I just bought a used one and come to find out, it doesn't have the factory tow package even though the used vehicle dealer said that it did. It doesn't have a hitch, it does have that tow switch near the steering wheel, and it has some sort of electrical outlet in the back on the bumper that has a key lock. I am very disappointed because I bought it mainly to tow a light travel trailer (6000 lb gvwr). I plan to get the hitch, electric, and brake controller installed on it but what else do I need? I am very worried now!

Thanks for any help. I tried to search the answer here but I couldn't find anything.

My Suburban has a tow package you can look in the glove box at the RPO codes (its a white sticker on the door) and if you have Z82 then it did come from the factory with the package.

On the vin decoder it states that the "Trailering package" has a Reese Hitch & provisions for HD Trailering Equip. I know it also has HD trans cooler & cooling system which I don't know if it's part of the "tow package" but it's equipped.

If you put a hitch on and a transcooler (if it doesn't have one) as well as a brake controller on I believe you should easily be able to tow 6k.

They don't all come with the tow package, but it seems like more have it than not.

Speaking of RPO codes, is there a list here that outlines all the options?

A friend mentioned that they should have adjustable rear suspension (Nivomatic?) if they have a third row and tow package, but I'd like to confirm what RPO code that is before I buy one.

Thanks,
Ian

Mine doesn't have a hitch but it does have the seven wire plug for trailer lighting.

I used this website for the decoder http://www.compnine.com/vid.php

as far as them having adjustable rear suspension the only thing mine has is the Manual self adjusting rear shocks (G65) which from what I was told just detects the extra weight and stiffens up and kinda keeps the back end from sagging so much.

Hitches are bolted and not welded. That was probably ordered as a cheap that could be a price point. Be smart and buy an aftermarket for the vehicle and save the cash as the stealership for a GM piece will charge an arm and a leg. Get a brake controller online with plug. Tekonsha is the best. If you are pulling a camper you will need weight distribution for your hitch. I work at an rv dealership so if you give me what trailer you will be pulling I can give you recommendations.
