So I have a 07 yukon SLT with AFM 5.3 flex in it and it is slowly dieing. replaced some lifters, idles like hell, randomly stalls, poor fuel mileage. It was poorly taken care of early in its life. It only has 150k on it. Rather than continueing to bandaid this motor, I have been contemplating dropping in a rebuilt motor either a aluminum 6.0 or 6.2. I can find complete engines with harness and cpu. Is this all I need or will I need other parts aswell? Doing the usual upgrades of mounts and such and plan on doing the master rebuild kit on the motor before installing so it will have new oil pump, timing gears, bearings, seals rings and pistons. Any pointers or information would be great, if this is already covered in another thread somewhere, I couldnt find it. Thanks guys

I think you have to "marry" the new CPU to the Vehicle so it talks to the BCU etc....

The search function sucks but try a google search...

The 6.2s were always married up with the 6L80 transmission. The 6.2 L92 and L9H have VVT but no AFM but your donor harness and ECM will make that a moot point.

The L76 6.0 had both AFM and VVT and in the trucks and wagons came with the 4L70 Supermatic except for the wagons in 2009 when they put a 6L80 behind it. You can beef up your existing transmission to handle the power of them all.

You can have your current PCM reprogrammed for the 6.0 or 6.2. This may be easier than getting the new motor's PCM to work in your car or it may not matter at all which PCM you use since either will need reprogramming and tuning.

As James mentioned, the engine you get may or may not have AFM and/or VVT. Having the harness for the VVT will make retaining VVT as easy as having it programmed into your PCM. The AFM you currently have would be plug-and-play on the new motor. If you get one without AFM, you'll need it turned off in the tune. I suggest getting one without AFM but with VVT.

The life of your 4L60E will be shortened with the new power in front of it. Swapping in a 6L80 isn't so straightforward. Again, as James said, you can build up the 4L60 to handle the power.

Other than that, everything else should be plug-and-play.

There is a bunch of things you'll need to do. Mainly the planetary gears, the sun shell, hardened input shaft, extra clutch packs, and upgraded band. I know I'm missing things, but I did take a picture of most of the parts bundled together.

This is what your current 4L60 has:

You will need a MINIMUM of this:

Honestly, since yours is an 07 and it already has CAN, you could do a 6.2 6L80 swap because in 07 the Yukon Denali had this drivetrain. You would have to make sure the 6L80 TCM was from an 07, and you would need a new instrument cluster and shifter.

Detail your vehicle and take it to a lot that has the DENALI your looking for. I know fixing up your vehicle sounds good in the planning stage's but it isnt like back in my day where going from a small block to a big block was done with a hammer to firewall and fenderwells and voila! you were burning rubber after a two day install that was as reliable as the oe engine and the envy of the gearheads/chicks. Now if your not truly versed in programming and have the tech2 and subscriptions to complete the swap it will frustrate you to the point of wishing you had never started the project. I know that is some really negative chit but it is truthful. If there is anyway for you to buy a different vehicle that allready has what you want to begin with imo you will be happier in the long run.

This is hands down, the truth. Doing this swap into your Tahoe would take a lot of programming and most likely trials and errors that could take months to figure out. I would say go for it IF there wasn't already a SUV in 07 that already has a 6.2/6L80 already made the way you want it. Trade your 07 in for a 07 Yukon Denali or Escalade and save money in the long run.
