Hello all, im looking to change my spare which is 245/ 75/16.But I'd like to know what's the biggest tire and wheel size I can store under there? I currently have 305/45/22 as my regular wheels, so just in case I get a flat, it's gonna look way awkward:wtf: if I put that spare on. Any ideas who have changed the spare?

I checked out a tire size calculator and a very close match to the diameter of your 305/45/22 is a 285/75/16.

If you still have your stock 16 inch spare just buy a new tire and you`re good to go. No need to have the same size spare under there.

The spare is only there for emergencies, if you have a flat you would get it repaired or exchanged as quickly as possible anyhow and you would put it back on the truck.

So, who cares what the spare on the truck will look like, it will be on there for a short time only?

your right to being on there for s hort time, but having AWD will ruin how it drives, not much but it will be a limp ,also it would be nice to put a better looking rim then just have a regular spare, from a 305 to a 245 while driving looks and feels weird, thanks for your imput though

My main concern with putting a 22 under the truck is the weight. I weighed my stock 16`s and the wheel and tire weighed around 75 pounds. When i switched to 20`s they weighed 92 pounds each. I`m not sure what that hoist can hold but there`s a reason GM puts a smaller combo under there.

And i know that if you have a nice looking wheel under there in a northeast winter the salt would have it looking like a boat anchor when spring comes around.

^ X1 - And how often would you really use it? How many times will you get a flat?

For me, KNOCK ON WOOD, this happened only once in 32 years of driving. And if all fails, one still has a Triple AAA card to get a tow truck to bail one out.

With that said, no bigger wheel on that hoist which will be not looking all that nice after a short period of time.

FWIW I carry an NNBS 20" Denali wheel. I'm either running my 24"wheels or 22" wheels for winter. Knock on wood it's been on there for 3yrs I took a black garbage bag, tied and taped it so it's good in rain/snow. Actually just dropped it the other day to check pressure and see how the hoist was. Hopefully I don't use it but it's good to go when that day comes.
