I use the same as mr. Tuna but not high mileage yet. I just hit 120k and have been running mobil 1 for about 40k that i have owned it. I change every 5k-7k miles and have not experienced any problems what so ever. No fancy filter here either. Mobil 1 is cheap but still higher grade imo. Great oil for a good price. Royal and amsoil is great but too big of a hassle and more money than its worth in time to get it imo.

Yes to above. Mobile One 5w-30 High Mileage. It has more additives than regular Mobile One or Extended Life M1.
If you want to go cheaper, then use Wal-Mart 5w-30 full synthetic.
If you want to go even more cheap, use a synthetic/dino blend.

There is a reason that high performance cars come from the factory with full synthetic oil....friction reduction, improved gas mileage, increased engine life, way better flow in cold temperatures, etc.

I get a 5 qt. jug of M1 HM 5w-30 and use 1 qt. of Wal-Mart full synthetic to top it off.

Whatever full synthetic is on sale. Mobil 1 and Pennzoil have MIR's ATM. I paid $11 for 5 qts after MIR of Mobil 1 recently.

*Edit whoops I meant to say Pennzoil recently.

About time for my first oil change on my 2003 with 49,000 miles on it. The previous owner used oil from O'reilly auto but I'd like to use something different. I've always used Valvoline NON-synthetic in all my other vehicles with no issues. Is there a favorite/specific oil that the 5.3l V8's like?

First of all, to answer your question, 5W30.

Secondly, since you have low miles on it, switch over to full synthetic right now. This will prolong the life of your seals (rear-main = $$$) and does a better job all around mechanically.

Choose your brand. I like Castrol Edge but any full synthetic oil will do the job.

Maybe dumb quest, but i had 177k miles and in past 6 years previous owner used 10W-40, it is good idea to switch back on 5W? Especialy on Mobil 5W-50 or Valvoline 10W-60?

I think soo, I last used 10W in BMW M30 engine(E34 535i) because of wear on camshaft.
But after 6years, will it hurt when switch back to 5W oil?
