Where does Rubber piece go when Reinstalling rear quarter interior panel, over heater

I am currently reinstalling rear quarter interior panel, over heater/ac assembly after fixing the rear heat. When I took the rear quarter panel, a rectangular (more or less) piece of rubber fell out. it seemed to have been glued somewhere. Can't seem to figure out where it went. I though it might go over the fan motor, to deaden sound.

Anyone have any idea??? Thanks in advance.

Here is a picture of the rear quarter panel with me pointing to rubber sheet. Has anyone seen this when they took theirs apart and happen to have a picture? There is glue on the back of the rubber. But it is near impossible to see any residue on the felt/insulation.

bTW, I placed it in picture were I though it went but I don't think this is correct.

find a place where you think it goes. I've removed mine a time or two on my 06 Yukon, and don't recall seeing that piece.

Shoot, I've taken mine off a few times since I've owned the truck but I don't remember that piece either! I'll see if I still have any pics that I took of the truck when I last got into that part of it!

Does not look like it would be really needed for anything?????!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not recall seeing this piece on my '04 when I fixed my rear AC issue and had removed this panel.

Well, The only thing I can think of would be for sound deadening, for example for the fan unit.
