A bit of advice please. After following the topic of catch cans on this forum, I've decided to install one. I understand they all work pretty much the same, but some allow you to see how full they are, and some have drains or other methods to make emptying them quick and clean. So, please advice me which ones are both easy to monitor and to empty. Thanks.

My experience may be unique, but I was having to empty it every day, and the PCV was getting plugged up with chocolate milk from the oil mixing with the water vapour in the PCV system. I ended up removing mine.

My problem may have been 3-fold: cool damp climate, a shallow can (had to empty if you got more than 20 mL in it), and mounted in a cooler location away from the engine. The cooler location would have allowed moisture to collect and never boil off. I may have gummed up my valve train on the PCV side as a result, I haven't checked yet.

All I'm saying is 1) don't go cheap and 2) when you do install one check the can and PCV itself daily for moisture and operation.

i dont drive my truck a whole lot. less then 3k a year, so pretty much do a oil change a year. most ive seen is the cup 1/2 full. mine is a screw off bottom cup. but has a dip stick.

ive seen the bottom drain with a hose deal and the side tube sight deal so you can see how full it is. it all comes down to how much you want to spend.

how much you collect is pretty much up to your engine. all will be different, my SS camaro (weekend toy 1500 miles a year) its like a couple table spoons at most in there.

From a functionality standpoint, it does not matter which oil catch can you buy. Regarding available bells and whistles, a drain **** at the bottom of the can may be a good idea for convenience (though, mine does not have one).
