Which GMC would I take a less of a lo$$ on?? Opinions welcome and details inside...

Ok, here is my dilemma--I found a really nice, loaded, with every option 2012 SLT Yukon with 2X,*** miles for $42ish out the door, but also I am considering a new 2016 Denali which even with GMS employee will be around $68ish out the door...

The question is--which do you guys believe I would loose less money on if selling either one around the 50k mile mark???

I expect this to be around a 6 year window...

I greatly appreciate you help and opinions!!

IMO, the 42k for a 2012 seems a bit high. Have you compared to cars.com and CarMax? Even so, common thinking is you will take less of a hit on the used car over a new car.

This is kinda interesting example

I leased my current pathfinder in 2006. It has an msrp of 28k so maybe 26k invoice. I bought it off lease for 18k. So, in 3 years, it lost 10k off MSRP and 8k off invoice. Working from Invoice, that is $222 per month.

I just received an offer at CarMax for 9k, so over the next 6 years (twice as many years) it lost 9k in value. That is $125 per month.

I'm sure you'll take less of a hit on the 2012, but as the poster above me said...42 grand is a lot of money for one that is almost 4 model years old, considering you can get a used 2015 for around that price.

When I first started looking, I knew I wanted to be in the 45-48 range. What I found was that I could get a brand spanking new Denali (short, 4x4) for the same price as I could get a used 2015 Tahoe LT 4x4 with 20k miles. Namely...45k. Easy. FWIW.

Your price for a 2012 is totally out of whack. There were reasons I chose to buy a slightly used 2015 over a new 2014 but if you're willing to buy an older vehicle you can get a much MUCH better price than 42k for a 2012

Thank you for your input. As far as the figures go, ~$42k for the '12 included tax and $600 for shipping as it is not local. The '16 with the GMS discount and including tax is ~$68k...

Also, the '12 is loaded, but I understand what you are saying....

It's pretty much a retail-used versus GMS-new decision... ..and which would be the smarter buy?

I'd think you could get an 2012 Escalade for low $40's. Would make more sense... get LED headlights, LED tails, cooled seats, and the 403HP 6.2L.

These dealers mark up their used prices like crazy. So a 2012 Esky might be listed at $48K, but you can get it for $42K or so.

Just pulled some auction prices on Manheim, this gives you an idea what wholesale really is and what dealers are paying for these trucks.

2012 Yukon SLT 4WD Above Cond. 22K $34,600
2012 Yukon Denali AWD Avg Cond. 32K $40,750
2013 Yukon Denali AWD Avg Cond. 35K $41,000
2015 Yukon SLT 4WDs are around $48-50,000
2012 Escalade AWD with 25K miles are around $42-44,000

Crazy how well these keep their values but that's a good thing if you bought them new.
