Okay so a decision has been made on the new retrofit configuration ...

We're going to go with LS460 projectors, 50W ballasts, and [secret] bulbs, in the lower big reflector bowl.
Amber/white led switchbacks in the smaller upper bowl for ts/drl.
Everything else stays as is.

This is what the LS460 projector looks like, it comes enclosed with its own oem shroud (the 2nd retrofit): http://customlightz.com/?p=p_224&sName=sequoia

The last decision I need to make is which oem housings to use that will complement the 460s better.

oem denali:

oem base yukon:

The difference is that the base headlight are all chrome (chrome/brushed in denali), and the side marker is fully enclosed by the amber strip (partially enclosed in denali).

Here's what mine looks like on the truck right now:

And Rai's Denali retrofitted (MH1) with the base headlights:

The thing is, I prefer the more understated Denali headlights, but I'm not sure which will flow better with the all chrome LS460 shroud.

Thoughts?

Serge those projectors are going to perform great! I think I'm going to go with the black flame customs just because I wouldnt want to spend more than a grand on my retro, but those LS460 projectors will outperform the morimot's by a landslide! Are there going to be any issues with fitting a projector as large as those in the housing?

Hey would we need resistors for the turn signal? wanting to get SMD LED for the turn signal but only if it is plug and play...

Go with oem, thats what I did.

Well if I don't blow $500 on a super secret special upgrade it'll come out to around $1200 for the LS460s. At the end it was between them and the TLs, although I'm still not 100% committed to the 460s I want to stay clear of the shrouding issues that TLs are famous for on account of their asymmetrical design and their sometime quirky solenoids.

As far as space I have been assured I have more than enough for any oem projector including the 460. This is because the Yukon bulb location is between the two vertical beams behind the housing and not right in front of them as is the case with the Tahoe. That said, some creative enclosing/sealing will have to be created to prevent condensation.

Yes, any led bulb that is used as a turn signal requires a load resistor to prevent hyperflash, including switchbacks. But it really is the simplest thing to incorporate ... or so I've been told. :)

Serge when u say the LS460 projectors are u talking about the ones the Lexus LS460 has? dont they turn when the steering wheel turns? would u still have that function available when doing a retro?
