Hi Guys,

I put a new gasket and o-ring in my oil cooler adapter late last night (1997 tahoe 4wd, 5.7l) Two paper gaskets come in the felpro kit. Both with same O.D's and one has a smaller circular I.D. and the other has an odd-ball shaped cutout in it.

I used the one with the oddball shaped cutout. My old gasket tore into pieces upon disassembly and I was 99% sure that's what was in it but now I'm wondering if I used the right one or if it matters at all since I've slept. lol

anyone have any insight?

I have no leaks and oil pressure is holding fine but I want to make sure I'm not bypassing filtration or anything by using the wrong gasket. Thanks.

I have 4wd.

Hard to tell in the pic but it appears I used the correct gasket, would you agree? (the gasket having the oddball cutout in it....NOT the gasket with the circle cutout i.d.)

Thanks Sunlitcomet! I honestly don't recall the fitup of the gasket on the adapter so much as I look at what was left of the gasket I was scraping off the block side and compared so I'm pretty sure I used the right one.

No ill side effects thus, just wondered if anyone knew for sure. If I need to change the gasket now is the best time as it won't be hard to swap out while it's fresh but I think I'm good to go.

thanks again!

Update: My years of turning wrenches got the best of me. Checked oil filter when I got home last night and it was cold. Pulled cooler adapter and re-examined. I had the wrong gasket installed. It looked quite obvious after getting sleep.

It's funny how the older I get the less aggravated I become. I just laughed. Anyway, the gasket I had to use was the one with the circular I.D. cutout. Put it all back together and nice warm engine oil started flowing through it. Looks like the other gasket allowed oil to bypass the adapter and not flow as well as it should through the filter (as the filter was full of oil).

Also, I want to thank everyone for an awesome forum! How did we ever live without the internet??
