Hey all,

First I'd like to say whats up...

The reason I registered is because I've spent most of my day trying to search the different forums, google, and other resources trying to find out the common problems with the Tahoe's. The reason why im in the market for one is because I have a 19 month old daughter, another daughter along the way arriving in Aug, and I feel that I'm just not the minivan type and I've always like the 07+ style.

Now from my searches, pretty much the 07's have alot of problems, maybe part being from its the 1st year with the redesigned body style, but couldnt really get much info about the 08+. I dont want to be purchasing a $35k vehicle and balance my savings worrying about transmissions going, differentials going, major components, etc. Im not looking to purchase new, or close to new, was thinking of 07 or 08 with my budget, but if 09 makes that much more of a difference then it would be in my benefit to put alittle more money for the "peace of mind". Also, when purchasing from smaller dealerships, like non-gm, are the 160k warranties transferable to the new owner? and is there a list of year by year changes that someone could provide me with...

Thank You
J

also honestly knowing every issue that can come up doesnt mean every issue will come up.
I think you are over thinking it. if you go looking for trouble you will most certainly find it....

Reading the forums, of course they look like there are a lot of problems... I mean people post when they do have problems. You're overthinking it, overanalyzing it. The biggest problem we've had with a combined 5 NNBS's including two 07 Tahoes, an 08 Yukon and two 09 Denali's was a recall of the heated washer fluid units. They have had no major problems minus the ones that were self inflicted.

I echo pretty much what everyone else has said. I've had my '07 Burb for a while now and I've had absolutely no problems with it at all. As has been stated, if you're looking for problems to be had you'll definitely find them but the problems you're finding may be "one off" issues just pertaining to that vehicle or to very few vehicles.

If it was me, I'd just focus on 07+ Yukon and Tahoes and get the lowest mileage single owner vehicle you can find within your budget but as with all used vehicles make sure you look it over with a fine tooth comb no matter who you're buying it from.

I have a 07 LT3 and love it. I have just a few clicks under 100k miles. Still runs great and looks brand new. Only had a few problems with it and it was just two sensors that were bad and replace lower ball joints and that is basically because I have it lowered and on 24's.

I was in the same boat a few months back. I spent more time searching for problems on 07 Yukons that I almost convinced not to buy one. If you search for problems on any make and model you'll find tons of them on different forums and message boards.

I purchased my 07 Yukon in October with 35k, and my main concern was the transmission also after reading the MSN ratings so I got an 5/100 extended warranty through one of GMAC's affiliate companies just incase. 6k miles later no real problems to report other than replacing a tensioner pulley, belt, and brakes. I'd say go for what ever is in your budget and if you have any concerns get an extended warranty (GMPP is the way to go).

A lot of people say to avoid the first year of a new body style, but I don't think there were typical problems associated with that issue for the Tahoe. I have an '07 that now has 70,1XX miles on it and I have never, ever, ever, ever had to take it to the dealership for something being wrong with it. I do normal maintenance, but nothing over the top. I change the oil when the computer tells me to (approximately every 6,000 miles) and at around 60-65k miles I had the differentials, transmission, and transfer case flushed and the fluid replaced. Maybe at 75k I'll have some more preventative maintenance done like flushing coolant, new brake fluid, new power steering fluid, etc....but my '07 has been cherry so far.

Edit to add: I still have the stock brakes, too...rotors, pads, everything...and they have a heck of a lot of life left on them. I have replaced the AC belt and the serpentine belt, they were getting a little hardened....but that's it!

07 with under 60,000 and no problems except one. The power lift gate motor went out but is rare on these trucks.
