How about Motorsource, has anyone dealt with them?

Any used vehicle inspector recommendations for the Chicago area? Here in Austin I have some leads that will come in site and do a used vehicle pre purchase inspection. It runs $150-$200 for a Suburban and the inspections are first rate. Beats trying to get the dealer to drive it to a shop.

Good luck today and share with us the result of your trip!

I just have friends and family for my inspectors. Don’t have any shop connections.

Very nice! Enjoy it! Please post more photos once it is home. (I don't see mountains in your photo, so not sure if you're home yet.)

A dealer here in Austin (who also had an 8.1L Yukon XL 2500) had a couple of Caprices from the Dallas PD. What an interesting vehicle. Apparently it's the only cop car to get perfect marks on the LAPD's assessments.

Here in Texas the Crown Vics are a dime a dozen, but these are still rare and special. I hope you're able to source all the parts you may need for it.

That was taken in Nebraska. I got home a bit ago but it’s dark out. I’ll get it cleaned up and better pics taken weather permitting.

My main concern was body work being hard to source but it’s a clean car. Maintenance type parts are easy and cheap to find since most are gm parts bin one way or another.

Oh man look at the rust on those things! I can only guess what the underbody looks like.

Oh neat! There is a dealer here in the Austin area that has two Caprices. Yes, they're pretty rare, practically a Holden Commodore. I shied away from them because I was concerned about the ease of finding replacement parts. Do you think you'll have any trouble with this?

<SNIP>

Sorry for the hijack, but I feel compelled to respond:

They are great rides, and yes, kind of rare. Parts are starting to disappear from dealer shelves, but many of the drivetrain and suspension parts from the Chevy SS, Camaro, G8 and GTO can be mixed and matched.

If you are more interested in the model, and in case the OP doesn't know, there's a forum for the Caprice:

http://www.newcaprice.com/

There are a lot of knowledgeable owners on that list, doing interesting things with these cars.

There will be evidence of rust under there, but most of the parts are well painted or stainless. The only big issue I've had with our 2012 Caprice is the flex joint near the end of the exhaust system. I've since replace my exhaust, but other than that flex joint, and the bolts securing the mufflers to the exhaust, there was little other than surface rust on the rest of the suspension.

Our Caprice came from the Wisconsin Highway Patrol. If I had known that before the purchase, I would have probably held off, but at the time, it was very rare to see one available. Still, it's been a great car.
