Why do people convert TO a PPV?

Seems that the PPV rigs have a niche group that want them. I may have read my answer somewhere but what is the draw? They have likely been driven like they were stolen and abused a bit. I know that in the gun groups there are guys/girls that just want to shoot what the police and military are shooting. Is the PPV draw the same thing? I see threads here where people buy a PPV and then post on here about how can they make it like a regular LS or LT.

I've owned a couple retired police Caprices and currently own a 2011 Caprice PPV (9C3). I think Tahoes get the same upgrades in heat management and suspension along with the gutting of amenities. Getting older, I kinda like the amenities and it's why I'm on the fence.

Police units are usually well cared for. "Low" mileage units can be deceptive: The idle hours tells a story too. I learned a Tahoe PPV I was looking at has less than 100k but 9600 hours of idle time. Quick math works that out to an average of 6-7 hours of daily idling. Sounds like a patrol car: no thanks.

One thing I've learned is that it doesn't hurt to wait for the right thing to come along, and that's what I'll do.

Mine was a good price. I paid $13999 for my 2015. It has 150k on it, but around here a 2015 Tahoe with 110k was $25k. Sure it has shiny rims and leather seats, but do you know what I can do with 11k?? I bought a center console, leather wheel, 8” screen w/car play, led bulbs, CAI, new shocks struts and springs, and new fleet rotors and brakes all the way around. I’m in to it for about $16500. Even with the mileage, it drives like a dream, has two small dings, and a spot light like to remove. I couldn’t be happier. I can still sell this and make a buck. The other Tahoe, I’d be upside down.

I had followed the Peders suspension from Australia and noted it was originally used as USA ppv. I ordered up the Peders for my base 2wd Tahoe. I hated the wood inside trim so swapped out the Z71 silver trim same as ppv. Finally for wheels I chose Silverado ss aluminum wheels. After hitting a couple of coyotes I installed an ss bumper and side skirts. Dual exhaust tips, hitch cover 71166989-72F1-49A7-B0FF-7EFCAD33B766.jpeg A14B53A4-66AE-4F68-AC20-5C3326E81B15.jpeg and Esky roof trim finish it off. Ended up with nice LT with PPV performance and good looks.

Im just curious. A PPV is cheaper. And when you save all that cash buying one, you can afford all the consumer upgrades for it.

Console - $240
8" screen with carplay -$1300
Heated and cooled leather seats - $2000
Steering wheel - $200
Carpet...if you want it.

For me, I got a 2015 PPV Tahoe with all the civilian ugrades for under $17k The cheapest Tahoe I found was $25k

Granted, I dont want chrome rims or 3rd row, but thats why I got the PPV. Im just trying to understand
they're driven hard that is why the value is less

I always said if you buy a previous police or government car that looks like law enforcement or vice versa, and you leave that car the same is because you want to make the belief that you are law enforcement to the others.
Here in NJ are a bunch clowns civilian with these cars with even with light bars, and they stick in your back and tailgate you to the point that you want to call the State police and report these people.
Others guys buy these cars because money and convenience; they look nice if you set up the right way.

Since everyone is on the topic... I have looked at a few SSV models and even a commercial model. I myself would like a rubber floor, cloth interior "basic 4x4" but with the 2 speed transfer case. 3rd row wouldn't matter to me. I just plan on using it for work.

I suppose it's a bad assumption to make that most Tahoe buyers are buying them because the 90 Toyota Land Cruiser or 90 K-Blazer or solid axle Range Rovers are not readily available or affordable, that's where I may be coming from. But. As far as I can tell the only advantage the PPV has is the shorter front valance that is less likely to catch on a rock or a curb.
Also, it used to be that alloy wheels would corrode and leak at the bead sealing area. Seems like that hasn't been the case for some years. My 1996 Tahoe wheels didn't leak much and I don't expect these 2020 base model alloys to leak much. Point being there is ...or was an advantage, perceived or otherwise, in getting a set of PPV steelies and center caps. They look awesome and if you bend one a little off road the tire probably will still hold air, and nobodys going to do one of those pit stop speed wheel/tire thefts on them if you park in the wrong neighborhood in some cities. Nobody else wants those wheels.
On the other hand if in fact the PPV has some kind of FE2 or FE3 suspension it would hamper it's articulation off road and you may as well just have 2WD.
