Ever driven a Police Pursuit Vehicle?
A 2.5ton SUV that handles like an overweight sports car is a joy, especially going nowhere for the hell of it.

(Although I'll never get why PPVs / SSVs only get a 5.3L, instead of 6.0L or 6.2L. For shame, GM.)

Ever clean the entire interior of a PPV / SSV clean in under 10 min with a garden hose and a towel?
I bet it'd be even more fun to dry one out with a leafblower. Can't do that with leather fabric and carpeting.

There are other reasons, most of which have nothing to do with actively impersonating an officer.
(Was unimpressed with that forum discussion.
Too many looking for an excuse to unnecessarily take offense where none was intended.)
I've asked GM directly who no 6.2/6.0 offering for the PPV. It comes down to initial vehicle cost and maintenance costs.

All my Tahoes have been police models, one I work for a Chevy dealer in gov fleet sales so there's that and I also do the lighting as well so they've all served as my demos.

I now have a 2022 SSV and I absolutely love it. It has all the features I really need, and then all the electrical stuff I need for the upfitting. There is a cost difference, but if you are purchasing these direct as a civilian (which you really shouldn't be, GM requires every one ordered to have a government PO attached unless you are a upfitter buying it for a demo) you'll still be paying in the ~$50k range or more. I had to jump through a lot of hoops and get approval from GM corporate to even buy mine.

As much as I love the PPVs, I really don't have a use for one and prefer my SSV's bit more subtle look with the 20" aluminum wheels vs the PPV's 20" steelies.

Horseschidt. Even given that town / province / voivod / county / city / state budgets are a thing,
if GM could afford the L77 in the Chevy Caprice by Holden, they can afford a 6.0L in anything.
Maybe there's some sort of under-the-table thing going on with Ford?
'cause the Ford PIU with 10L80 is a more pursuit-y pursuit vehicle than the Tahoe PPV with 10L80.

For every PPV / SSV feature that genuinely should be kept away from the general public,
there are at least 5 others that it makes NO sense why GM won't take money for them.
Anyone who wants one should be able to pay a lil bit extra for stabproof seats, no?
Is all hell gonna break loose if the general public is allowed to have two batteries?
Who is GM protecting by denying the general public easy-to-clean interiors?
They're just being pains in the arsewholes, full stop.

Luckily wheels are still easily swappable ...

If you are not purchasing for law enforcement purposes...why would you want one of these models vs a civilian model? What am I missing here?
Personally i don’t see the appeal in the civilian model vs. the ppv model, for many reasons.

But the only actual answer to your question is personal preference. It’d be like asking why do people take a 90k suv and put mud tires on it, or Carolina squat, or lift kit, etc. and of course the justification would be something on the lines of “because it’s my money, it’s my truck” so, yeah.

If GM still offered the caprice PPV, then I’d say the reason for *not offering other engines on the Tahoe PPV/SSV was to not step on it’s own toes in fleet sales :: ie, a government agency want’s practical vehicles they buy Tahoes, they want fast they buy Caprices, they want both? They buy both.

But since the Caprice PPV was so short lived.. probably part due to the fact that it basically was a Holden, and the only choice that agencies for “fast” is the Charger Hemi, I really am not sure why they only offer the 5.3.

Though i would suspect for simplicity and streamlining as my second guess.

Caprice PPV might've actually been too good a car for police work,
but it was definitely too pricey for cheap gov't bastaduccis who refuse to appreciate that you get what you pay for.
Now that the Caprice PPV is dead, I get that part of the reason why GM only offers a 5.3L,
is because Gen5 V8s only come in 5.3L and 6.2L (6.6L is only for HD truck stuff, I guess? Too good for the general public?)

The other part of the reason is GM is being lazy. Consider the following:
5.3L's 96mm bore, 6.6L's 98mm stroke, yields ... 5.7L ... and GM won't need to spend an extra dime on different tooling.
