I have a set of these I was going to put on my 2000 Silverado but I'm not going to run them on it. I also have the Nelson harness with the relays to connect it to the stock ECU. Can I use the fans on the radiator in the 1996 Tahoe? Can it be wired in the stock ecu like on the newer trucks? Or do I need to wire it up with one of the sensors that ties into the radiator hose? What's the best way to make them work and will the F body fans I have fit?

Not sure about fan assembly but no provisions exist for PCM controlled temperature switching in the 1996 model. You will need to provision a thermostat with either a probe that goes into radiator core or a screw it unit mounted on a hose adapter inline with the upper radiator hose.

A sensor in cylinder head reads what is in the head and not downstream of the thermostat and would not be able to determine overall temp from engine like what the computer sees. If one head gets to hot there is a 50% the thermometer would see it and turn fan on earlier. Just being technical.

What is the best one to get and just in case what fans are usually used? Ultimately my plan is a LQ9. When I swapped in that wouldn't I swap in the newer ECU that would have the provisions to control it?

The sensor in the head sits right between the two exhaust ports, that is the hottest part of the cooling system by far. I guess it depends on you, do you want your fans turning on based on the hottest temp in the system hitting the upper limit or some temp in another place hitting a limit that it may not get until there is already damage done??

LOL just being ****.

So what's the best sensor to get? How effective are the ones that connect to the radiator hoses? Or can I connect it to the ecu I'll use when the ls goes in

I treat it like this. Your mechanical fan clutch responds to the temp it sees is the temp coming form the radiator airflow. If you were to have a thermostat for electric fans would be rad temp. Otherwise your fans are running more than normal. And if you thermostat get stuck closed it ain't going to make a difference anyway. It sure is not going to cool an over heated engine with air. :imo: If you trade up engine though follow the path the design path of the new engine system.
