Theres a guy selling a longblock LQ9 from an 04 EXT, its basically just the block, no manifold or accessories. The other parts from my 5.3 in an 01 hoe fit right? I know theres alot of threads on this subject but I dont have the time to search, Im going to pick this up if its just a straight up swap. Thanks guys!

what's the difference between long block and shortblock?

i thought our tahoes/yukons came with Short Blocks ?

does this means we need to swap with a short block so we wouldn't run with fitment issues ?

i've been curious about this

i think you are thinking of big and small block. all ls motors are small block. unless they came out with something that i havent seen.

short block is just rotating assembly and heads. long block includes the intake manifold etc.

Is the 8.1 that Chevy used for a couple years and LS motor?? I know that it's a big block motor but not sure if it's in the LS family or not.

long blocks and short blocks dont have anything to do with physical size...

long blocks= complete motor, including the heads
short blocks= engine block and rotating assembly- but no heads.

if u hear someone say they "short blocked it" they just replaced the bottom end of the motor and block and used the old heads. if they replace the "complete long block assembly" then they pull the motor and transfer the EXTERNAL accessories over to the new motor which is a complete motor, heads, block, and rotating assembly.

example of a short block:

example of a long block: minus the valve covers (thats an external accessory i mentioned)

See 2005YukonXL....this is why I like you. You're a problem solver!!! :hands: So this answers the question originally spurned by redemn that there is at least ONE big block LS motor in the 8.1 L motor produced between 00-06 :waytogo:

my bad wrong word i meant to say the physical (size) of the motors.

Pretty humorous mix up, though  I like it :D
