Winch bumper designs

^^ Wasn't talking about yours, it's pulled in at the corners and isn't an eyesore like the FabFours/Road Armor style bumpers. It's the only one I would want if I were to buy one.

didn't take it that you were, just throwing the info out there as what could be changed on one like mine. the main part that sticks out (winch plate) is at least angled enough underneath to be able to "slide" up over anything that came into contact with it (until it hits all that IFS crap...:D)

I like points from both the front/high mount and the recessed/lower mounts. I'm leaning towards having the top of the winch just above the top level of an OEM bumper so it's acessable in mud/snow/sand but not hanging way past the front of the truck. My design so far is rather modular, the winch mount is attached to a front hitch receiver, acting as the 'anchor' of the bumper. The bumper is one welded assembly that bolts onto the anchor, and the brush gaurd will bolt to the bumper. I want to be able to remove the guard to service the grill/lights/cooling system, and I would like to be able to pull the bumper without dropping the winch and hitch.

I have been trying to figure out a way to protect the IFS with a skid plate or ramp bars, I'll post my drawings when I get a nicer copy drawn out on some graph paper, then you all can critique/expand or mock as the circumstance allows. :)

:lol: Gotta love the ole IFS, I regret fooling with an lift for mine, shoulda stayed a little bit cranked with 285's.

Cool I like the modular idea, especially when it comes time to do maintenance under the hood.

looking forward to what you come up with, would like to have something to put between the bumper and the crossmember other than a normal skid plate as the angle will be really steep.

Ya, thats where I have been getting stuck too ProComp. I have been toying with the idea of a telescoping tube/bar, just trying to figure how to mount it. Wont let you slide up and over a rock/log, but should keep stuff from getting ripped off by random sticks,branches,small children.

My big problem is that I have done literaly NO serious off roading, and my Yuk is stock lift and susp. so everything I come up with and sketch out is theory. I have a former room-mate that I have been bouncing ideas off but until I get my project lifted and geared a lot of this is all just supposition.

i completely understand the being broke on one income b/s. spent a good chunck of time a few months back between jobs, paying the morgage with no income is a ******! not to mention i burned through all the spare mod money and then some haha.

my hoe hasn't seen much offroad as it turned into the DD soon after it was lifted. hoping to get it off the pavement atleast a little this fall to decide whether to start putting together the SAS parts and get rid of all the IFS junk. :) (no longer the DD)

just noticed you got lucky and found one with a 5 speed already in it.:happy160:

I love the five speed, it's a little bit rough on the downshifts and needs a clutch.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a Suzuki sprint with a bagged engine or trans that I can scoop up cheap, fix up and use as the DD (and teach my wife to drive) so I can really dig into the Yukon. Like you I can't take it out to the bush and break it or I'm screwed.

On top of all that, my Cracked Out upstairs nieghbour attacked me last night, so you won't be hearing from me for a bit.

So I have some cleaned up drawings, and am cutting and assembling a cardboard mock-up. I need to get the drawings over to a scanner, and I will post the pic's of the mock-up when I have it put together.

On a different note, I am in the middle of some messed up tenancy dispute, Crackhead upstairs attacked me and the Landlord served me some sort of BS incorrect eviction notice (no cause, so its invalid, he would need to terminate my lease) so I have no idea when I will get the time to pull this project all together.

Thanks for all the input and pointers folks, I really appreciate the help. I hope I can get this up and posted for others to take advantage of. Everyone should have access to an affordable, effective bumper.

This forum rocks.
