window seal help

ok...new to forum...new to Chevy....I have a degraded leaking rear window seal...I have the new seal and I have 2 questions
1. Easier to remove back glass to put seal in or leave glass in?

2. seal came with long black piece(not connected to seal) where does that go??

any help is appreciated

most likely a lock strip with the ends covered covered by a cap (maybe on the cap). That is the skinny piece. the ends are usually at the lowest point in window. Pull that end out and it allows the seal to flex therefore allowing you to remove and insert window into frame. When done reinsert locking strip like you would for a new screen on screen door everything locks in place. Get some help as to not break the glass when handled. Not sure if sealant was added to the design so check into that when you remove it.

I have not done one on this truck but someone else might have. So wait for some more responses.
