Relaxed on Mods for too long, with growing family and all. Finally back at it in a big way(this week). Swapped in new crate LQ9 w/ Z06 cam, longtube headers, cat delete, full Corsa, E-fans, and a hot tune. No S/C yet, but I think this is a good start/platform for that next step. Sucks to be on a budget, but at least my XL is awake now. Off to body shop for a bit

It has Gobs More Power, but haven't got it re Tuned yet. Could barely swing the Build. Wife is getting laid off and Christmas just happened. so Kinda Tight with 4 Dogs 1 Cat , 1 Kiddo and a Prago Wife. and on a Cops Salary Ya know.
I'll let ya know the second week of feb. That's when she is getting re tuned.

i have read online before that the extra HP of the 6.0 basically makes up for the extra weight of the engine itself. So, is the power a feeling of extra power because of the size difference from the 5.3, or is it just the feeling of power from a newer engine in general? aka, is the power/weight ratio of the 6.0 better than the 5.3? also, is the decrease in mpg noticeable?

both the 5.3 and 6.0 iron block motors weight around 520 lbs. if you got lucky and have the aluminum 5.3, those blocks are around 80 lbs lighter than the iron blocks. and in stock form, the 5.3 is rated at 325hp/370tq, the lq4 is 330hp/370tq, and the lq9 is 345hp/380tq. so theres not a huge difference with peak numbers, but the 6.0s make alittle more power at lower rpms. but once you start swapping parts, the larger displacement motors will of course show more results.

i was just thinking in a stock or almost stock sense. performance would increase more with more displacement of course, but also, is the mpg cost worth the extra power of .7 liters? i have the 5.3, still going strong, so i was wondering about a 6.0 for when it eventually dies.

if your just needing a motor to go the grocery store, itd be cheapest just to put another 5.3 in it, they are a dime a dozen. but if youre looking for performance, the larger motor is a well worth it. from what ive seen in my area, 5.3s go for like 500-750, lq4s 1000-1200, lq9s 1500+, and ls1s about the same, 1500+.

what kind of mileage do you show in your 5.3? i show around 14 in mine but my foot has alot to do with it, it showed alittle over 15 when i bought it. my dads lq9 esky with cai and exhaust shows 13.5-14 or so also
