No didn't need to, it recognized it and music played after I loaded it from my windows 10 machine.

I did movies and music. But the movies have to be from the rear usb port and can't be in motion. for now ;)

I uses a 128gb flashdrive too, behind the screen, with no problems. Just loaded the music on the drive and was good to go. I used the San disk shown earlier in this thread.

I use a 128GB sandisk usb flash drive formatted as FAT32. Works just fine in there and other ports too. If you are using playlists, ensure the drive path is set to relative in the software you use to create the playlist.....if your not sure, dump all playlists on the drive and just put the songs in the root of the drive and see if you can get it to play "songs" that way to see if its a hardware or software issue.
