As a few of you may have read from my couple previous posts, I'm a newb to both the Tahoes and this forum. But I just had to post this, and I promise on Monday the picture will follow.

Backstory: Just bought a 99 tahoe about 2 weeks ago. Anyway, just working on getting the kinks out, and for the most part everything is going nicely.

BUT.....Yesterday, I was on my way to a customers home during evening rush hour. It was in the area that I grew up (a.k.a boondocks). I said, I'm outta here, jumped off the freeway and had a little fun on the back country roads.

On the way home, I've got the window down, I hear a "clanging" sound. I thought maybe I'd knocked the exhaust loose on the backroads. It sounded like hollow metal bouncing around.

Today, I try to find the issue. I can't. When the truck isn't moving I can't recreate the sound. So I take it up to a Muffler/Auto shop. Asked them to look at it. (10 minutes before quitting time).

I convince the guy to take it for a spin....He comes back and says "It's your brakes"

Throws it up on the hoist....tire off, drum off, and VOILA! There it is.

It doesn't have a brake bad on the rear drivers side!!!!!!!!!!! It's not hooked to anything. The previous owner literally took a coat hanger and strapped it down. When I went down the dirt roads, it obviously knocked it loose and started clanging around.

I was so shocked at what I was looking at that I didn't even think to take a pic with my phone. I'm going out of town tomorrow, and I'm taking it to the shop on Monday to have it taken care of, I'll post the pics then...

Oddly enough, I said..I bet you've never seen that before? The mechanic said, Yes I have..

Being that the brakes suck to begin with I cannot even imagine how bad your truck was......Very lucky you didnt have an accident!

a good friend of mine has an 89 v6 firebird that is falling apart and he refuses to give up on the car. His intake manifold rotted through and coolant was shooting out the hole. so we drilled and tapped it and put a bolt in it. He couldnt afford a new manifold so we "fixed" that one.

i would have been suprised until i bought my sonoma...

the back side of the driver front rotor was completely gone, pad was dragging on the ridges in the "vents". dude had put a brand new set of pads on that trashed rotor. best part is they didn't replace the passenger side.... found the old pads in the bed (truck was pretty trashy when i picked it up) along with the 2 new spark plugs they didn't replace because they must not have had a long enough extension...
