Just looking for a little advice or a suggestion......

We have an 08 Yukon Denali with the powered running boards and the drivers side as been giving me some issues. As of right now the drivers side is stuck in the up position and will not come down. The passenger side works great and no issues.

Both sides and have been sprayed with a Liquid Wrench white lithium spray.

I had problems with the drivers side a while back but then it started working again. The first time we had issues, you could hear the motor running but the step would not move. Now the only noise it will make is a short "clicking" sound and nothing else happens.

I'm leaning towards the motor but would it be possible there is something wrong with the control module?

Also, if the motor is in need of replacement, how do you get it unbolted while the step is in the up position?

Am I missing anything else or can I do or try anything else?

Thanks!!!

Iirc all you have to do is unplug the harnesses, unscrew the few bolts that faster the power steps to the truck, and they just come out. On mine the motor was attached to the step assembly itself so you can swap it after taking the steps off. At least that's how I remember it.

Thanks for the reply.

So I'm probably on track with replacing the motor.

Sounds like it. I never had any issues with mine but I've heard of many folks reporting motor failure on the older ones, especially on trucks that suffer hard winters. The likelihood of being anything more involved than that is very small. But please double check my advice because I don't have my truck any more to double check from my end.

Sounds good!

Any suggestions on where to pick up a motor? The cheapest I've come across so far is about 265.00.

Thanks again!!!

That I dunno Jim.

I used to see a few on them on adhuntr (cl aggregate search engine) and sometimes on the ebay ... but I haven't searched for a couple of years.

UPDATE.........

Got to looking at the step today and noticed you can actually remove the rear housing of the motor. There are only two T-15 Torx screws that you have to remove and the rear housing comes right off.

Once the housing is off, you can turn the rotor. Once you start turning the rotor the step will begin to move up or down, depending on which way you turn it.

This actually solved the issue of not being able to get to the motor mounting bolts as the step is stuck in the "up" position and bolts were blocked by the step itself. So if your step is stuck in the up position and you need to replace the motor, just pull the rear motor housing and turn the step down for clearance.

Once I had the housing off, I looked at the rotor the brushes and everything looked pretty good and the motor turned freely. I ended up cleaning the components and put the housing back on. I also cleaned the hinges and sprayed them down with a Liquid Wrench, white lithium grease.

Once it was back together .........Presto no more clicking the running board worked great!!!

Wait it wasn't that easy..........After several tests, the board quit working and the clicking was back.

Next I went and hit the control module and now it's working again, with no issue. So basically what I thought was probably a motor, is looking like the control module.

The only question I now have is reference the control module.

After looking online I've found two different part numbers for the control module.
The original parts number was 25822021 but it has been replaced with 25852622.

I have actually found both for sale online but I was wondering if anyone knows if there were any issues with the original module due to the replacement number?
