Hi all - will a roof rack from a 2006 Z71 Tahoe be a direct bolt in on a 2004 Yukon? From what I can tell I think so, but I am not certain.

I bought one on Ebay and it wasn't compatible - didn't line up with the holes I had already. It's still sitting here, annoying as crap.

I don't know how to tell which one you're getting and if it will work. I don't know if the one I got was a wrong model year or what, but it didn't work on my 2004 LT.

Thanks - I am getting some rear springs off a 2006 Z71 that someone is parting out, and the roof rack caught my eye.

You could always take a tape measure, check your own mounting points out, then check the donor vehicles mounting points. Good luck!

The most likely reason that it’s not lining up is that you bought a rack from the incorrect wheel base length SUV. For the gmt800 series, ROOF racks from a Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade are all interchangeable with the same length vehicles. The suburban, Yukon XL, and Escalade ESV racks are all compatible with the long body rigs. The way the three different types of roof rack bolt to the roof in exactly the same manner. If the rack you bought on eBay doesn’t fit it’s probably from a long body SUV.
I DO KNOW that the Z71 racks will fit on a Yukon as there’s a couple members here that have put Z71 suburban racks on Yukon XL Denalis.

I dunno - I just went back and looked at my Ebay history, the auction said "00 tahoe roof rack complete 5.7 z/71 4x4". And it doesn't fit. Possibly listed incorrectly, yes. The page is gone now. I got shafted, cost me about $150, that's what I know.

I have an 04 suburban and am wondering if I can swap out the standard roof rack and put a Z71, same generation, rack on it. Do the holes and brackets align? Has anyone tackled that question?

I believe I have the answer. Here’s a YouTube of a guy doing the exact swap in question:

That roof rack won't fit the 2001 to 2006 at all. 5.7L was the original body style(92-2000)

2001 to 2006 will fit the 2007-14 body style. I have a 2005 on a 2008. Only issue is the Z-71 rack has additional mounting bonds for the wide rear end. Just don't worry about those and you are all set.

Yes you can, just don't worry about the extra mounting holes on the Z-71 rack that your regular rack doesn't have. If you are crazy about putting them in, you'd have to drop the headliner and put in nut-zerts
