I am just thinking out loud and looking for some feed back here on cheaper options than modding the stock engine. I was thinking of just shoving a crate engine with a carb in the tahoe when it's time insted of tring to do all the things needed to try and make power out of the stock engine. I see the PCM upgrade and marine intake or ram jet or the other one what ever it was and it just seems like by the time your done screewing with all that and spending the money I could have just bought a ZZ4 turn key, a trans controller and been done. Don't get me wrong I like the FI engine but I live in Florida, I dont see really bad cold starts, I don't have emissons checks, and I have messed around with FI preformace engine builds before on my 97 camaro. Only reason I never threw a carb on it was because there is no room with out cutting the cowl. ZZ4 makes great power and it seems that by the time your done building one of the 5.7's with all the stuff you have to buy you have over 6k wrapped up in it to get close to 400 crank hp out of it. If I'm wrong please someone set me in line and give me some insight. So what is your take on this and what has it cost you to do something similar? post it up please.

While ZZ4 is a definite option (355HP/405TQ), I'm personally looking at the HT383E crate... just swap over the top end, get a computer tune, and voila!!! 340HP and 435TQ ready to go!!! Heavy trucks need TQ to get moving...I'm willing to give up a few horses on the top-end for more low-end grunt.

If you're looking for more, there's always the ZZ383 (425HP/460TQ). ;-)

yeah, being that the HT383E is a direct replacement it makes the swap nice and easy.

Why not just the 572??? :naughty:

:D

Lmao yea.... If gas wasn't head up right now I would love to do that. It would be a beast of the south east.
As for the ht383E, I thought the numbers were lower than that or was there another one? Maybe I am mixing it up with another one. I thought it was in long block form also. Or is that what you ment is the intake and fuel system? Hell if those numbers are right then I would love to do that if they are still going for around 4300 shipped to the door. Nice and easy plug and play type stuff. Just looked it looks like they have gone up in price but not much. I could live with that. Now who has one and how do you like it. You can't spin those past 5000rpm right? Is that because of the cam they have or will the fuel system not be able to handle it?

I run the HT383E. It is a great motor, I have close to 40-50K on it I think. It makes good power. if my calculations are correct it really is 350hp and closer to 500 lbs tq. I think mine put down about 380tq...to the tires

I suggested the **383 lineup because they are pretty much plug and play... a 572 is not in that category - harness, trans, ecu, exhaust, rear-end, etc have to be beefed-up/changed to make that work.

The 340HP and 435TQ numbers from the HT383E are based on carb testing (HT383 motor), but I'm sure with the right tuning you'll be close to those numbers even with EFI.

Nothing wrong with dreaming about the 572... just a lot involved with making that swap a reality. :Handshake:
