Snowbound
Jim
I’ve taken a vacation from the site for a little while. I had a build going on my 99 Denali but unfortunately had to say farewell to that one. Regretted it ever since.
I’ve been in the market for a ride to put my wife in. We needed something with a 3rd row to replace her Equinox. I spent some time looking here and there, not really being serious unless something came up that I couldn’t pass on. I’ve been doing a lot of work to my house, still dumping money into my projects and her Nox was running great so I wasn’t really in need. About early September I finally said ok, I’ll start getting serious to find something. I wanted to drive her Nox for the winter while I pulled the engine and trans out of my Duramax. Searched every day, traveled 100 miles in every direction to look and drive a few, but nothing really was the “oh yeah, this is the one”.
Tuesday, November 6th it’s 6:30 in the morning and I’m 30 minutes from getting off work when I got the dreaded phone call saying, “babe, I was just in a really bad accident”. I was 20 minutes away from where it happened, I immediately jumped in my truck and tore ass out of work and pulled up at the scene at 6:43am. This was the scene.
I live 3 miles from Statesville Prison and an employee of the prison was making an illegal left turn into the prison and everyone started to panic stop when she got smashed in the rear and launched her forward into the person in front of her. Then another car hit the car behind her which smacked her again putting her and the car behind her from the left lane across the right lane and came to rest on the shoulder. 6 cars involved and the Nox and the silver Civic behind her took the brunt of it. Everyone was ok thankfully but my 4 year old was traumatized by the side curtain airbags. Scared the crap out of her.
Long story, already long, Nox is totaled, $9600 in damage so my search for a newer vehicle just got put on the top of the priority list. I rented her a vehicle and searched for 2 weeks before I finally found what I wanted. I was going to get an ESV Platinum edition but it sold as I was in route to dealer 96 miles away. I was 10 minutes from dealer when they called. WTH!! This is how my luck works. But I found an 08 Escalade with all the features we wanted and 113k miles on the clock. It’s a 2 owner, no accidents, clean Carfax with all the dealer maintenance records. I made the deal and brought it home for her this past Tuesday.
Plans are to do a 2/3 drop, full length headers, stainless exhaust, full tune-up, new belts, idler and tensioners. I’m gonna change fluids, check and most likely replace the entire front steering items (I always do) and probably throw some new brakes on it front and back. Also it will be tuned with HP Tuners to correct all the torque management crap in the trans and clean up all the stuff the GM doesn’t. LED interior bulbs are ordered and it’s going in next week for tint and Line-X undercoating. I’ll start a build so I can get info from everyone and to also share what’s happening to this thing that she calls her “black princess”.
