Only thing I don’t like about this 3.0 Diesel in my 2024 Yukon XL SLT is trying to pass on the highway, particularly single lane roads. It feels a bit gutless when you really need it to pull. I’m not sure if the gears with the max tow package negatively impact that?

Around town it’s very peppy and the torque, both around town and on the highway, is phenomenal but I really don’t have a ton of confidence when I need to juice it past a transport truck or a line of 2-3 slow moving cars on a single lane 100kph/60mph highway (we have quite a few areas in rural Nova Scotia where we have some single lane highways).

My F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost (soon to be traded in for the 3.5) is a completely different highway experience as far as passing acceleration goes.

The gearing in the 21+ SUVs is 3.23 - doesn't matter which engine or options (max tow).

But to your point, it's only 277hp - that's not a lot of hp for a full-size SUV and compared to the 6.2L which pumps out 420hp. It won't have that high end punch for passing.

Yeah, figured but wasn’t sure. Still enjoy the engine and have no regrets. The day-to-day gas mileage is fantastic for such a big vehicle. I also like how the digital fuel economy reading are always nearly identical to what I hand calculate as well.

I have approximately 18,000 miles on my Suburban with the Duramax. I love this engine. Hauls my 6,000# boat with no problem and is also great on a road trip. I have a heavy foot but still gets 27+ mpg. If I drive the speed lit I get 29/30 mpg. As far as passing... usually no problem although not as much punch at 60 as 40 mph. Passing a line of cars I have it at the mid 90s. Haven't driven a 6.2 so can't comment. It does compare favorably with my old 5.3.

Absolutely, the positives far outweigh the few negatives. I'm old and I don't need to be passing people 4 at a time.:burnout: The Duramax is plenty fast enough for me and will go 80 and 85 all day long with the best of them. No better road vehicle out there for taking long trips with lots of stuff. 29.1 on the avg meter today and a fair share is buzzing around town.....
