Presently at work, waiting for tow truck. Started the Yukon remotely and when I got close it started knocking. All kinds of lights and then the CEL, idling super-rough. Suspecting lifter failure (21K on the odo). Anyone using the range Tech. AFM/DFM delete? I had one in my 2018 Tahoe but when I got this truck, I called Range Tech. and they hadn't developed one yet. I see now they have one for sale, anyone using it?

I bought the range for my just acquired ‘21 Yukon Denali . It didn’t light up, called Range was told they didn’t have one out yet . The guy had little to say when I reminded him they were offering them to fit. Said I ought to buy their ECM unit. He didn’t seem to know much about their Products so I sent mine back to Amazon planing to go with another brand.

I bought my Yukon which had an engine replacement 10k earlier due to DFM. I don’t know if the original owner used a range type product for those 10k but I’m anxious to protect it. Anyone know of a unit that actually works on a 2021? For now I’m just doing the L9 thing and hoping the warranty on the new engine is worth salt .

I'm interested in hearing exactly what this means.

DFM, Dynamic Fuel Management, has special collapsible lifters. There is an issue with some trucks where the lifter collapses and doesn't return to its normal state. Causing physical damage to lifters, cams, bearings, valves etc. In most cases if caught early, a simple lifter replacement is sufficient. Other times, if the engine goes too far unchecked and damages too many internals...engine replacement is required.

Range Technologies makes a DFM "disabler" module that prevents the engine from going into DFM mode. read up on the other thread posted earlier in this one, and learn all about it.

Also here's a video I made on it.

It’s worth noting here that the Range technology device DOES NOT completely disable DFM as certain portions of DFM ( that include lifter collapse) remain fully functional even with the Range device installed. So it is not a “disabler” it’s a schedule modifier.

It certainly reduces the total number of lifter collapse cycles, but it does not eliminate them from occurring during 0% throttle deceleration ( which happens literally ever time you come to a stop).

The Range device might make you’re driving experience nicer as under part throttle cruising the engine won’t be playing musical cylinders, but any potential benefit to engine/ lifter/ cam longevity is absolutely thrown out the window by them leaving the 0% throttle deactivation part still functioning.

I'm fully aware of your skepticism. JK, I'm fully versed in how the module works/doesn't work. I have read that other thread 3x over before deciding on installing the unit, which I ultimately decided was worth it. If the lifters fail...so be it. Gives me an excuse to go full on DOD delete.

If you’re “ fully versed” then why you’d write statements saying Range device may prevent lifter/ cam damage associated with DFM when you knew it allowed the lifters to still collapse?

Even so, let's say by installing the Range module, it reduces the times that DFM activates by 50% (making up a number). This is a short leap away from deducing that it would reduce risk of lifter failure, because the DFM lifters are being utilized 50% less.

I also think that eliminating DFM activates during cruising (while engine under load) is more impactful on the life of the motor, than the 0-cylinder decel/coast portion of DFM, that activates under no load. Again a short leap away from deducing that it would reduce risk of lifter failure.

I get it that you're very much against the unit, and have a beef with Range for one reason or another. But not everyone can go out and drop thousands of dollars to delete the DFM system. So this is the next best thing.

Yes, I dislike the Range unit because Range Technology blatantly lied about what the unit does. Then after they got enough complaints they changed the website to have a "some customers may" statement. Yeah, some customers may notice the device doesn't work. And when I asked for my money back I got a big set of hoops to jump through (like return must be in the original packaging), so yeah, they're crooks too IMHO

If you can get passed this kids voice/ accent/ general mannerisms and watch the video long enough (or fast forward) to the portion where he's driving its pretty obvious the Range unit is still letting DFM just do its thing.
