In almost 50 years of driving, I've never experienced what happened today. After driving about 45 minutes, stopped at destination, put Tahoe in park, turned and removed key and it continued to run at 700-800 rpm idle. Put key back in and turned on - off several times before it finally turned off. Made a couple of stops on trip back and issue did not reoccur.

Could it be a short? In working on one of the lights just after I got it in 2022, I noticed GM used the thinnest, cheapest wiring possible.

Welded/Sticking contacts in your ignition switch (Electrical switch not to be confused with ignition lock cylinder which is where your key goes). You will need to perform a PASSLOCK relearn after replacing ignition switch.

Agree with @rockola1971 about ignition switch. Easy to replace and pay attention to the little gear teeth. Set the new switch teeth, the same as your existing switch.
