    Tow Light

Today I was trying the cheap fix for the Intermediate Steering Shaft by this method http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/topic/31625-diy-for-dummies-int-steering-shaft-clunk-pics/ though it seemed to work but now the tow light is on and won't go off, (infact I've never seen the tow light come on...

229k on 2003 XL Denali maintenance tips?

Do not know for the 6.0, this was for the 5.3. I wish mine were a bolt on. From what I've read here it's a PITA to do.

Yeah, fuel filter. That's next weekends project for me. Remember you will need Lisle fuel filter disconnect tool p/n 35000 to get the darn thing off.

229k on 2003 XL Denali maintenance tips?

I understand how you feel and don't blame you at all. But I really don't see how you would have a problem, and you shouldn't worry about it. With the condition of the fluid you described (GOOD) I would say you have a 1 in 900 billion chance of it ruining the transmission. By not changing the...

229k on 2003 XL Denali maintenance tips?

:sorry:, I guess I'm confused then. You don't have access to the machine anymore, so that doesn't matter, your fluid is not dark and smelly, so that no longer matters, your fluid is red smells and feels clean, so what is the issue with not replacing all the fluid and just what's in the pan? In...

229k on 2003 XL Denali maintenance tips?

You seem to keep forgetting about the detergents those machines use, that is a problem in itself. No, my method will not cause any problems, and it does change ALL the fluid. Many folks have done it with great results. I have not heard of one instance where this method has ruined any...

229k on 2003 XL Denali maintenance tips?

I think this is the biggest problem you mentioned "Even with the T-Tech because there is so much detergent in the new fluid it would 'clean' up so much gunk that people would experience bad results " Even though the fluid looks and smells clean the detergent can still dislodge clutch material...

That is the reason you do not want to use that process. You already know what could happen, so why even try? Do it the way I posted and you will be fine. I have used that process on many vehicles over the years and not once had a problem from it.

Transmission fluid and filter should always be changed no matter how old it is. Unless you like to replace transmissions for the fun of it. The key is to how you replace the ATF. Doing a flush is a bad thing IF it hasn't been done on a regular basis. The safest way it to use the transmission's...

    External Transmission Filter

You can't see the mounting plate, it's under that support arm. What you see is the way it came from the factory. But, I do know what you mean. Thanks :waytogo:

    External Transmission Filter

The adapter was $37 and the 7' worth of oil cooler hose was $25 and the brass barb fittings was about $3. I already had the bracket, nuts, bolts and temp filter. Although the filter I will be using is $13

    External Transmission Filter

Got the external transmission filter installed today. NAPA did not have the hydraulic filter I wanted. p/n1269 so I used another one I had in the shop till it came in. Went to Home Depot to get (2) 3/8th's brass barbs to splice into the cooler line coming out of the radiator. I'm sure there...

    Motor Flush

That is why I suggested a 0w-40. The 0 is cold start up weight while the 40 is warmed up at running temps that may make it quite. The first number in motor oil labels is the ambient temp weight. Meaning a 0 weight is thinner than a 5 or 10 weight. The second number is after the oil has heated...

    Motor Flush

What motor oil are you using? Maybe try something a little thicker, like 5 or 10w-40. Synthetic oil will help clean things up. Dino oil when not changed often will sludge up.

    Motor Flush

Yeah, because if there is alot of sludge build up in the motor it will get flushed down into the pan and plug up the oil pump thus starving the motor for oil and burning up. Did you read any of the comments below the video?

    External Transmission Filter

I use a hydraulic filter made by Wix p/n 51269 that can flow 7-9 GPM which is way more than the system can pump, so no need to worry about drop in pressure. This filter is also full flow which can filter down to 10 microns which is a good thing. All the ATF will be filtered at all times, so...

    External Transmission Filter

This setup has been on this TJ for 140k miles. Have another on my 1980 CJ7 that has 360k on the clock. Not sure what a better line and fitting could be, as they seem to hold up well. Can you give me some ideas as I'm about to do this on my new to me 04 Tahoe? I do drop the pan every now and then...

Other steps when flushing a transmission

Hard shifting could be due to the simple fact that the filter is getting plugged up and therefore not getting the proper amount of flow through the transmission. Old and worn out ATF will also cause this problem as it no longer has the lubricating properties as it does when new. Since that you...

    External Transmission Filter

I've done this on my JEEPs that have automatics. It's much easier as you will no longer need to crawl under the truck to drop the pan and make a mess. It's just like changing a oil filter, spin on spin off. I picked out a spot on the Tahoe under the hood on the left side what looks to be a "U"...

    Changing Spark Plugs

I went with the AC Delco Iridium plugs and wires. Seems that most here used them. I also used dielectric grease and antisieze on the plugs. Least it will make it easier for the next guy to remove. :) ---------- Post added at 07:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:41 AM ---------- I...

Other steps when flushing a transmission

I would not do a flush, but rather just a fluid replacement. Drop the pan replace the filter and top back off. Then remove the top tranny line on the radiator passenger side. You can get a brass fitting the will screw into the radiator from the auto parts store. Then connect a 5 or 6 foot piece...

    External Transmission Filter

Any one ever do this on there Tahoe? I have them on all my JEEPS and it makes maintenance much easier. Just wondering who has and what their setup looks like.
