The other day I went to my local ACE Hardware but their inventory is depleted especially on the larger stuff. Today I went to my local Fastenal and they ordered bolts for me that are supposed to arrive on Monday. Those will be 15mm shorter than the stock bolts (150 vs 165 mm) but the correct...
Joseph - I went to GM Parts Direct.com and no luck finding the bolt. The exploded parts diagram shows the body mount bolts, shows the crossmember, but does not show the bolts for the crossmember. I clicked on the crossmember thinking that it would have the bolts included but they are not shown.
I just went out and pulled one of the bolts out of the crossmember. They are M14 bolts x 165 mm. I don't know thread size but suspect that they are 2.0 and the bolt is Grade 10.9. There is a shoulder (washer like feature) under the bolt head and the nut also has a shoulder. The bolt has 70mm...
I saw those bolts but was not sure if they are the proper ones. Size looks right but was really hoping that somebody had a definite correct part number.
Hey Wes. I'm trying really hard not to take out the y-pipe which entails removing one or both 02 sensors plus you know the three bolts that connect the y to the exhaust manifolds will be rusted, probably break off, and create their own nightmare. If the darned bolts were installed with the...
I am about to replace the transfer case on my 2012 Yukon Denali XL 1500. To do this, I will need to remove the crossmember that supports the transmission. It has two large bolts on the drivers and passengers side. On drivers side, the inner bolt will hit the transfer case so it will probably...
Can a person change out the chain in the BW4485 without totally removing the TC from the vehicle? Specifically, can you remove the front drive shaft then remove the front cover and through that approach replace the chain?
Hey Folks!
At 200,000 miles my 2012 Yukon Denali XL has a lot of clunk going on in the transfer case. It is easily traced to the transfer case by individually grabbing and twisting the front and rear drive shafts; the lash in the chain is very obvious.
I see rebuilt units on EBay for $995...
Dustin,
Great input. I have a pretty solid set of tools but I did splurge and buy an inner tie rod tool. I have a 3/8" Milwaukee electric ratchet but I went crazy and bought a 1/2" drive version for this project. Those two tools should make this project a lot easier.
My question was more...
The final shipment of parts are due to arrive later today. This coming Monday or Tuesday I'm going to replace upper and lower control arms and the inner and outer tie rods. Any hints or suggestions on doing this project? I know to mark the alignment cams and count the number of turns on the...
Could someone please explain to a dummy what the yellow stuff is, the significance of the meshing marks, and why the concensus is to send it out as is? TIA.
I just did this project. At the same time, I also replaced the transmission mounts and I replaced the front sway bar bushings and links. My two teenage boys helped me and they like when I write instructions so that they can make progress when I'm busy working or grabbing another beer. So I...
OR VietVet - Thank you very much for your input. - It looks like the MOOG RK62088 is for the Police Package (PP) which my truck does not have. I don't see clear info on the TRW JTC1950. That is, is it left or right and is it PP or not. The Delphi TC5574 and TC5575 are PERFECT!!!
THANK...
At 197,000 miles its time to refresh the front suspension (for the second time) on my 2012 GMC Yukon Denali XL 1500 AWD. However, I am struggling to find reasonably priced LCAs. I've shopped RockAuto, Amazon, AutoZone and Discount Auto but no luck. I do keep finding LCAs that are for the...
I just finished cleaning and organizing the tools that I used yesterday in prep for putting them back in the tool boxes. It amazes me how many tools I use for these big projects.
Actually, I had my tranny fail last fall. Not sure what torque converter went in with the reman but is shifting very well.. Eve though it's not a year old, should I consider replacing the converter with a BU60FHD ?
I have a new barbell in the truck for the work next week. I got the idea from...
At 195,000 miles I've been doing several of these projects. A couple of weeks ago did engine and transmission mounts. Next week having transfer case rebuilt and back of engine seals replaced to fix oil leaks.
2012 Yukon Denali XL 1500 6.2l.
Replacing front L & R hub/bearings, front L & R differential mount brackets, front L & R CV axles, rear sway bar bushings and links, and doing an oil change.
Wish me luck.
Scott
I'm looking for a good exploded parts diagram for my 2012 Yukon Denali XL. I've been using the CHARM manuals which is very helpful but it's not a complete set of diagrams and part numbers. As an example, I'm looking to replace the front right and left differential mount brackets. While doing...
I chickened out. I went by a local transmission shop. You know the type; they've been in business for decades and have transmissions, transfer cases, differentials and internal components everywhere. They're the real deal. They put my Denali on a lift and inspected the drive train. They...
