We traded my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe for this Tahoe 3 years ago to use as a tow vehicle for our travel trailer. We've replaced the stock mirrors with power folding mirrors acquired from a forum member and we had the upholstery replaced with leather. We've decided to keep this vehicle for a few...
We live in Montgomery County, NE of Houston, TX. 40 cent difference was a bad example. That's what my wife reported that she paid wherever she filled up her Tahoe before our trip. I believe it's more like 15 cents for each upgrade in octane from what I have seen lately. We're currently paying...
We took the travel trailer out for the weekend to a park about 125 miles from home. Fueled up the Tahoe with 89 octane for the drive up, got about 9.3 MPG per trip computer. Refueled with 87 octane for the drive home, got 9.2 MPG per trip computer. Had plenty of uphill grades that would take...
Just thought I would mention that Anita was able to sell the original factory mirrors for $100 to a local buyer. That was needed to offset the purchase of a bezel for the driver side master switch from CrankCase's vehicle. It had the woodgrain finish and that was in contrast with the LS trim in...
No pinging / knocking that I am aware of so far. But the majority of miles put on the vehicle are by my wife driving to/from work and running errands, etc. Will have to look into this a little further. Thanks for your input.
JennaBear - we have the 5.3L V8. Per Chevy, minimum octane of 87 or higher with up to 85% Ethanol is recommended for this engine. For the 6.2L engine, 91 octane or higher is recommended.
Yeah we didn't even use our fresh water tank (i.e. it was empty going up and coming back) as there was good clean water hookup available and we drained the gray water and black water tanks before leaving our site.
@JennaBear - we are running on regular gas, I believe it is 87 Octane.
100% certain? No. Just going by the trip computer for both values. But even if the trip computer is off, the values are still relative from a percentage standpoint.
HD pickup is a non-starter. I have a 90-mile roundtrip commute 5 days per week and my wife has zero interest in driving a...
You guys might be right. The trailer is 28' x 8' and 11'4 at the highest point. The front is rounded to help with aerodynamics somewhat but there is only so much you can do to get around that. I was driving 60-65 MPH most of the time. Speed limit varied from 55-75 depending on which section of...
My wife is getting around 22 MPG driving to/from work and errands around town (Houston area) in her Tahoe. No complaints about that at all. However, last weekend we took our new travel trailer out on its maiden voyage and averaged right at 10 MPG. We were on the highway most of the way and...
It's done! Anita picked up her Tahoe from the dealer a little while ago. Everything installed and working, total bill = $411.
At one point, the dealer told her the passenger side door switch would be needed after all (as the wise members of this forum had stated) for $161 plus installation...
Update: Received CrankCase's mirrors and master switch panel yesterday in excellent condition as promised. We're taking our new travel trailer out for a "shakedown cruise" Fri-Sun so installation and programming should be taken care of next week.
sumo - I didn't receive a response from you but the dealer says the passenger door switch is not needed. So maybe Juniorss will take it off your hands?
Hey guys, looks like this thing is FINALLY going to work out. Yeehaw!
After trying to work with our local dealer and two different custom shops, my wife (NanaNita) found a more cooperative (i.e. helpful) dealer that indicated a willingness to help. She took her Tahoe to him this morning, he...
I am going to try and pull one of the switches this weekend and check wire colors per Crank's suggestion. In the meanwhile, if the harnesses do end up having to be replaced we have one custom shop saying they can handle that. I also received a PM from an acquaintance on a sports forum I frequent...
Found out she was talking to parts dept. at the dealer. They are saying her 2010 Tahoe LS has a DL8 code and Crank's 2011 Tahoe has DL3 code. They are saying they have different harnesses inside the door and just changing the switches won't work because they won't mate up correctly to the 2010...
I suspect you are right and that's what I was thinking, that the door wiring would be standard and only the options that connect to it would vary. We are NE of Houston, TX. She's been talking to the service mgr at Robbins Chevrolet in Humble, TX (they have an excellent reputation). Not sure if...
CrankCase sent us the VIN for the vehicle he's removing the mirrors from. He also sent pics and they are in excellent condition (like his entire build). My wife (NanaNita) talked to the dealer who she also gave the VIN from her Tahoe to confirm matching parts. He said that it won't work because...
Crank - I got your PM but I can't respond in kind until my post count = 10. Maybe you could PM your email address?
For my education on this issue, why is a passenger side switch needed? This is all new to me.
Nita has talked to a shop owner that says he can do the install. She had already...
I just happen to know the reason she needs the power mirrors is that the vehicle doesn't fit through the garage door opening w/o folding in at least one mirror and then just barely. For her the "pain" (and expense) of the mod would be worth it to eliminate the hassle of manually folding in the...
