2013 Escalade ESV Annual Maintenance Update: the good, the bad, and the incompetent

Thanks, good to know. This is my first GM clamshell front differential. The only other front differential I have dealt with was the Dana 35 in my old Explorer. Onward!

2013 Escalade ESV Annual Maintenance Update: the good, the bad, and the incompetent

I agree. However, that is what I had onhand. I live out in the boonies, so going to a parts store is a bit of a haul.

2013 Escalade ESV Annual Maintenance Update: the good, the bad, and the incompetent

Thanks. That makes sense. Worse comes to worst, I have AAA. Hi donjetman! I didn't drop the pan to change the filter and check the magnet, because... In October of 2021, 16,*** miles ago, I: -dropped the pan, replaced the filter, cleaned the magnet, installed the Sonnax ZIP kit in the valve...

2013 Escalade ESV Annual Maintenance Update: the good, the bad, and the incompetent

Thanks. Now that I have slept on it, I think I might be doing a bit of 'chicken little'.. Growing up, skanky gear oil + metallic glint always = differential dying. Looking at this again, the oil is dark, but not absolutely horrible. And the metallic glint is not very prominent. The front axle...

2013 Escalade ESV Annual Maintenance Update: the good, the bad, and the incompetent

Gear oil drained from the front axle. Not good looking for being only 14 months and 16,*** miles old. Sample of the old gear oil in a 150mL syringe. Some fuzz on the end of the magnetic drain plug. Fuzz wiped on a rag. Soft, not chunky. I suspect a bearing is failing. Sooo...here...

Really Stupid Question: Where to measure for level on a 2013 Escalade ESV...?

That would require me to have a garage...:D I was concerned about reading the level correctly on the 6L80E. I had thought they were somewhat sensitive to fluid level. Thanks!

Really Stupid Question: Where to measure for level on a 2013 Escalade ESV...?

Gentlemen, Thank you for the information! I will admit, I feel stupid for not thinking of putting a level on the underside of the frame. Thanks, diesel_dave! And, Geotrash, that is the simplest method. Thanks!

Really Stupid Question: Where to measure for level on a 2013 Escalade ESV...?

Hello All, As the title states, where do I measure on my 2013 Escalade ESV to see if it is sitting level? Reason being that I do not have a level spot anywhere on my driveway or such. So, checking oil and trans fluid is a pain. My intent is to raise the rear of the vehicle until it is level...

Every so often 1st gear slips

Hello Just00Jake, Take a look at my thread here: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/6l80-sonnax-zip-kit-pressure-switch-rebuild-remote-filter-install-and-fluid-flush-in-2013-escalade-esv-pic-heavy.130110/ It is far more in depth than you are going, but it has good info on rebuilding the...

2013 Escalade ESV doesn't have K5L HD Cooling, do I need to search for the 700W fan motors...?

That was my thinking. All works well now, no reason to take it apart. IF I ever have the shroud out, I will pull the motors and look for part numbers. I did notice above in swathdiver’s post, he stated that all Escalades came with 700W motors. Based upon that and what I saw on the ACDelco parts...

2013 Escalade ESV doesn't have K5L HD Cooling, do I need to search for the 700W fan motors...?

I just looked at both cooling fan motors with a mirror and flashlight. I was unable to see any kind of part number on the motors. The motors are set in the fan shroud, which covers the motors.

2013 Escalade ESV doesn't have K5L HD Cooling, do I need to search for the 700W fan motors...?

To be honest…I can’t argue with that perspective. I have had no cooling issues out of my Escalade. We are in the depths of summer here in Upstate SC. AC blows snow and coolant stays at 192. I do tend to go too far for bigger/better/faster… Thanks!

2013 Escalade ESV doesn't have K5L HD Cooling, do I need to search for the 700W fan motors...?

Thank you very much for the information, gentlemen! It is appreciated. I will figure out which set of blades I need to run. I am going to upgrade the fans and motors at the same time as I do the electrical system 'big 3' and install a 220A GM22949466 alternator. I will try to get the part...

2013 Escalade ESV doesn't have K5L HD Cooling, do I need to search for the 700W fan motors...?

I just got off work, and checked both cooling fans on my Escalade. Both fans are 5-blade, rimless. I counted the blades on each fan a few times to make sure I was correct. Sooo…an upgrade may be in my future.

2013 Escalade ESV doesn't have K5L HD Cooling, do I need to search for the 700W fan motors...?

Hello All, Random musing...I have seen mention on this forum about RPO K5L HD Cooling package consisting of 700W fan motors and such. My 2013 Escalade does not have K5L listed on the RPO sticker. It does have KC4 Cooling System - Engine Oil (oil cooler in the radiator) and KNP Cooling System -...

Front door 1, Key fob 0….

According to my AllDataDIY service data, I was to invalidate all key fobs associated with my Escalade, then program them as a group. Working through the Body section of the Tech 2, I was able to invalidate all the key fobs. I then tried to program them all in a group. And failed...

Front door 1, Key fob 0….

Hello All! I have had a vehicle of some kind with a remote key fob since 2013. Every day leaving for work, my keys are in the deadbolt. I slam the front door, lock the deadbolt, and go on. Last week…it didn’t go so well. 6 month old GM key fob for my Escalade tried to act as a door stop. Not...

New guy with a 2013 Escalade ESV Premium AWD

I ended up driving longer, and have refueled again. 25 gallons of 93 octane ethanol gasoline from my local QT a couple of days ago. Tonight, on my way to work, I again monitored the OCTSL_M factor value. It started at 0.968 in the driveway, but quickly dropped to 0.552 once on the highway. The...

Thanks! To be honest, I am making this up as I go. In the Navy, I was taught to troubleshoot equipment down in the engine rooms. I am now paid to do the same thing in a heavy stamping facility. I approach my vehicles in the same way. Try to develop a logical plan, observe all data, use any...

New guy with a 2013 Escalade ESV Premium AWD

I monitored knocks on cylinders 2, 4, and 5 on the way to work yesterday evening. I still saw some spikes, but I realized I was looking at them on a scale of 1 to 0. Meaning yes or no. Not magnitude of the knock. I switched to Live Plot of total knock retard. That was quieter. Though, I saw a...

I don't know. The spikes were random, and the vehicle speed was relatively constant, as was perceived engine load (by me).
